Re: Shock Valving, Spring Rates
I have urethane in the front, but the main issue I see is the amount of scrub that the front tires have as the suspension cycles. I might borrow some wheel alignment plates and try it again to see if that helps.

Re: Shock Valving, Spring Rates
Okay, step 2 is done: ballast fo find wheel rates. Front wheel rate is 130 #/in with 260 #/in springs. Works out to a motion ratio of 0.71, very close to the measured 0.69. Rear wheel rate is 240#/in with 300 #/in springs. Works out to a motion ratio of 0.89, not too far off the 0.86 usually cited (...

Re: Shock Valving, Spring Rates
Finally got around to doing a bounce test on my '87 Chump Fiero with the 260# front springs. Disconnected the front shocks and bounced the front end as per this page: http://www.smithees-racetech.com.au/performancefactors.html I did the test several times and the average was 2.05 cycles/second. Has ...

Re: Shock Valving, Spring Rates
Thanks for the replies.
Class rules might allow the Mustang struts but not a dedicated motorsports or owner rebuildable struts. The two factory struts that look close are the Mustang struts and the 3d Gen F-body struts but I'm open to suggestions for other adaptable OE strut options.

Re: Shock Valving, Spring Rates
So have been reading the Autocross to Win site and will try out the numbers generated on the Dynamic Calculator. Has anyone adapted Mustang front struts to the rear?

Re: Front Suspension Crutch 84-87
Found my set-up notes, my front end height is 27" almost exactly to the highest part of the fender lip with 225/45/17 tires (25" tall).

Re: Shock Valving, Spring Rates
Have been racing my '87 Fiero GT in Chump for the last three years and using a set of Herb Adams sway bars with cut-down stock springs. Recently the rules have been changing and the spring options have opened up, so I'm wondering if anyone has a track-sorted spring/shock combo that works with the He...

Re: Front Suspension Crutch 84-87
As mentioned, I lowered mine and am in the negative part of the curve. Next time I have it on the ground I'll measure from the hub centre to the fender lip.

Re: 5 on 4.75" Bolt Pattern Rear 84-87 ABody/6000/4WDS10
Yeah, the original plastic boots are fine, it's the replacement rubber ones that can balloon out at high speed and rip themselves on adjacent parts. Mostly in endurance racing when the CVs have time to get warm and the rubber softens. Another tip is to slip a WD-40 spray tube between the boot and th...

Don't forget to put zip-ties on each of the CV boot folds to keep the boots from growing at speed.

Re: Front Suspension Crutch 84-87
Did you change the control arm mounting points or the knuckle height. The angles of the 84-87 front control arms cause the camber to go positive (bad) when compressed. I can see how anti-dive would definitely be a positive thing and I'm planning to implement that. I was wondering of I could get eno...

Re: 5 on 4.75" Bolt Pattern Rear 84-87 ABody/6000/4WDS10
Yes, 115 mm, thought about that after but didn't edit. Good catch, 4.50" is 114.3; 0.013" difference on the radius so not much if using Ford wheels.

Re: Front Suspension Crutch 84-87
Front holes slotted down, rear holes slotted up. I have the before bumpsteer, haven't bothered with the after because it needed serious correction in the before. 2001 TA power rack, great feel and quick ratio, nasty bumpsteer. Didn't check as I was mounting it but essentially followed what others ap...

Re: Front Suspension Crutch 84-87
It was a very hot and wet weekend to be racing but at least it was fun. We did have an axle seal go on Saturday. I had intended to replace it Friday night but with the rain and the heat my teammates preferred to go home to the AC instead. It did make the rest of the weekend a little more relaxing. ...

Re: Front Suspension Crutch 84-87
I have sufficient camber gain with my stock '87 front end. I slotted the upper control arms to make the upper ball joints movable and can get about -2.5 camber but usually run -1.8 to -2.0 with 225/45/17 front tires on 17 x 8 rims. Dive with cut stock springs was a major issue, causing excessive neg...

Re: 5 on 4.75" Bolt Pattern Rear 84-87 ABody/6000/4WDS10
I race a Fiero in Chump and I use the P6000 HD spindles and hubs, bolt pattern is 5 x 114.5 which is a common tuner size. I usually can pick up a set of 17 x 8s and 9s for less than $300. All bolt-in parts, cheap and easy to find. Have about 80 hrs on one set of wheel bearings with no signs of issue...

Re: Improving suspension geometry?
Sorry to jump in, but I was wondering about an anti-dive mod for the front of an '84-87. I did a search but didn't get anything. Has anyone built/tested something?
