Re: LZ9 and LZ4 Fiero Swap Parts

There are two different 3X00 alternators that are almost imperceptivity different. I broke an alternator bracket by blindly mixing and matching before I discovered this. If you measured one alternator and test fit with another you may have discovered the same thing. These mounts look great! Hoping I...

Re: Brake system hydraulics.

Hello, There is more involved in a well functioning braking system than most hotrodders understand. This is what I have learned trying to improve our braking system. The combination valve does 3 things. Proportioning Indication Timing Proportioning adjusts the front/rear bias. Indication lights the ...

Re: rear sway bar?

Hello Eric, This is a matter of taste but I would want one on that setup. I'll describe our preferences and setup as a reference point. Hopefully this will help you decide where you want to go. We are (hopefully) out on track for a full day going wheel to wheel with drivers of varying skill levels. ...

Re: 87 Fastback L47 Chump Car/ Lemons Project.

Hey fellow racer, Just an FYI, LeMons rules prohibit the fuel cell location you show. I wanted a fuel cell in that location too. We've just been making the OE tank work until the new (thirstier) engine forces us to place a fuel cell up front. LeMons_FuelCell_Rule.png Good luck getting it on track! Sam

Re: Front spring selection for 84-87

I like the serviceability of old-school tapered roller bearings. I have this style on the front of my daily driver 2WD truck; I love it! I have no problem with tapered wheel bearings. The bearings on the Fiero are just too small for my use case. If you go through the exercise of looking up the sugg...

Because the OP wants a higher spring rate and ride height than what WCF offers. I could also guess that price, shipping, and import taxes are a factor.

Re: Front spring selection for 84-87

I just received the Mevotech SMS2278 springs today, and they appear to mostly fit OK. This is good to know. Having another option is always better. High scrub radius, so steering kickback over bumps, and possibly tramlining weirdness. This is bad for feel but the way that GM minimized kickback make...

Re: Front spring selection for 84-87

Fabbing a suspension is the next logical step after fabbing a turbo kit This is the way. But beware, the rabbit hole is much deeper than it looks. On the bright side there is enough room for improvement that it's not the marginal improvement you might see on another chassis. The '88 front doesn't h...

Re: Front spring selection for 84-87

What is your target spring rate? Ride height? Shocks may also come into play. The front springs from a 4th gen Camaro can be cut to fit but this will be quite stiff. A lowered ride height will require more to be cut off and increase the spring rate further. You will need either a performance shock o...

Re: wet sump engine oil control, a thread.

do you datalog oil pressure when you race? I have it inputted into my MS3, so I can watch pressure all the time if I want. I'd be interested in hearing how it trends in cornering, if at all. do you run an accusump or similar accumulator? We are running OBD1 with no Accusump and have been since ~201...

Re: wet sump engine oil control, a thread.

Where do you send the oil? I use Blackstone Labs: https://www.blackstone-labs.com/ There may be better out there but that's who I started out with and I haven't been disappointed so far. I have a couple kits hanging around so if I get paranoid I send a sample out. Come to think of it I may send out...

Re: wet sump engine oil control, a thread.

I am not clear whether the primary goal of this thread is to minimize parasitic drag (maximize power) or improve reliability. I do have a data point that may be interesting if the concern is the latter. We've been endurance racing 3400 engines for a dozen years and have had no oil control issues usi...

Re: LZ4 3500 V6 Swap

Then do something similar to the 3800 guys. This is reasonably close to my original plan. I have both the ebay linked manifold and the turn down manifold. I was going to use the turn down manifold and turn it into a Y. Getting the tube length similar would have been a hassle that I'm not willing to...

Re: LZ4 3500 V6 Swap

I've been trying to make progress on the exhaust but time has been tough to come by. I will be using the stock Impala front (firewall side) as well as the rear (trunk side) manifold. The original plan was to use a Saturn Aura manifold for the rear but the Y-pipe plumbing was going to turn into too m...

I asked for clear anodizing and the provider (I think) did everything in the same bath. The cast components came out dark gray, while the 6061 components came out clear. The A/C Compressor fitting as a welded assembly came out with the 6061 areas clear and the weld fillets dark grey. I still need t...

Re: NA 3900 Build

Bent a stiffener out of some 3/16" steel and welded it fully inside and out. Welded fully from the outside first, tried to keep it from warping that way. Also clamped it to an anvil which helped. It was only a tiny bit not flat and I massaged it back to flat. Ground the outside weld fully down...

Re: Pro-Squat & Braking (Early Suspension)

The actual Indy Pace Car had shimmed rear cradle mounts to reduce pro-squat geometry. I figure that when the guys who build race cars zero in on that modification, there's probably something to it. It's great that you've had success with it! I've been thinking about duplicating this on my street ca...
