Re: LZ4 + 4T65-E Swap Into an 85 Using rusEFI
Here is a blank: https://www.onlinemetals.com/en/buy/alloy-steel/2-25-alloy-steel-round-bar-8620-cold-finish/pid/9601 72" is more than enough for 3 camshafts I wonder if they meant a blank already machined to length with some rough work already done. http://jonescams.com/custom-camshafts/ Not s...

Re: LZ4 + 4T65-E Swap Into an 85 Using rusEFI
Cam grinding sort of has my interest now. i can easily adapt a CNC lathe to grind cams. Are there no aftermarket cams for the LZ4/9 that keep the VVT? I have seen the cams from the older engines used with spacers. What are they charging these days for a custom grind for a 6-cyl? Checkout this beast ...

Re: LZ4 + 4T65-E Swap Into an 85 Using rusEFI
I build all sorts of custom robots and 5+ axis machines as well as additive manufacturing tech. I could print sand molds and cast aluminum rockers or cam blanks and grind them. It just more of a project than I planned. @ericjon262 What ratio are the comp "Magnum" roller rockers? If they we...

I'm just happy to provide useful pics, measurements and info for those that might be wondering how or what if.
The question of how to use LS7 1.8:1 rockers on LZ9/4 heads was an unanswered question on several threads here and other forums.

Re: LZ4 + 4T65-E Swap Into an 85 Using rusEFI
I'm not planning a cam swap. I'm planning on keeping the VVT. I'm just making simple improvements for reliability and a little performance. It will be a daily driver for someone and I don't want to service much besides filters and fluids for quite a while. If max power was the goal I can just buy an...

Re: LZ4 + 4T65-E Swap Into an 85 Using rusEFI
I have to see about putting an offset in to change the rocker position. I still have to check the clearances for the pushrods and the valve covers if i do so. Not sure yet how far i want to go into changing rockers, pedestals, pushrods and fabricating valve covers, etc. etc. if need be. How many HP ...

Rocker ordered.
LZ4 Head - rockers
Looks like there might be enough space between them. I can always make some new valve covers.
Not much room left for bigger valves though.

Re: LZ4 + 4T65-E Swap Into an 85 Using rusEFI
If the factory can control it then I can most likely control it. The more difficult aspects of automotive controls are having to RE things on CAN bus and similar where the makers don't like to share info with those not blessed by the factory with some license fee or subscription. Worse is what tract...

Some pics of the body.
Was the factory using polyurethanes by '85? It acts like a urethane vs a lacquer. What's left of it anyway.

Re: LZ4 + 4T65-E Swap Into an 85 Using rusEFI
A stock set of pistons. The owner works for a GM dealer. We are keeping the VVT and DBW. ~240 hp should make for a nice daily driver here 9 months out of the year. It is being built more for reliability and modern updates than anything performance. The dash will become all digital in the stock bezel...
