Re: Dry sump oil control, a thread.

They went from a single stage system in the C6 Z06 and ZR1 (basically a normal oil pan with a pump at the bottom), to I believe a 2 stage in the C7, 3 stage in the base C8, and now the new flat plane LT6 in the C8 Z06 has a 7 stage system with six scavenging pumps, four of those being for the four ...

Re: Who wants to design a LZ itb intake and 3d print it?

FWIW, in my model above, the walls of the ports touch, but it's not terrible. significantly more room than a connecting rod width. That's my point... the DOHC valve/ports are symmetrical across the cylinder axis; opposing ports are only offset from each other by the bank offset, which is the connec...

Re: progress on the banshee...

Congrats for knocking it out! There's a concept in systems engineering of the "thing that has more connections to the rest of the system than any other element". Solve that and the rest of the system becomes easier to deal with. In my experience, there's a similar phenomenon in car project...

Any material in the engine bay needs to be rated to at least 125C, and higher if it's close to the exhaust.

Re: Who wants to design a LZ itb intake and 3d print it?

I got this far with an LX9, note the valve cover boxes are totally wrong, they need to be more or less parallel to the base flange, in this they were angled down towards the middle of the intake, which doesn't leave room for the rockers. there are a ton of design restrictions with a 3900 intake tha...

Re: The Mule rides again (sort of) - pics.

After wildly missing my end of June goal due to the Jeep taking WAY more time than I thought, I was able to get back to The Mule 2 of the last 3 weekends. I looked over my fit check list, then dropped the engine back out to finish up the harness. I trimmed the right hinge box to give "just enou...

Re: progress on the banshee...

We were discussing two different plans, mine was to put a stock LZ9 cam nose on an aftermarket 60v6 roller cam. I'm not opposed to building my own blank and having ground. It actually really surprises me that cam companies don't make assembled cams, it could open the door for a ton of applications ...

Oh, the whole car, not just the top :-D

You were really proud of your CARB legal TDC swap when you first completed it. I was wondering if you were going to keep your current VIN/engine combo and start over on a new body.

Re: progress on the banshee...

GM assembles the cams... why can't you? Each journal, including the VVT hub, is just a piece of steel with a precisely jig ground ID. Each lobe is rough cut by a wire EDM, then the ID is finished with a jig grinder. The lobes and journals are shrink fit onto a piece of precision ground rod. right, ...

Re: Dry sump oil control, a thread.

1. The C6 Z06 dry sump addresses #1... And does a decent job of it. It doesn't really have problems unless the car has slicks and pulls >1.4gs in a left turn for more than 4 seconds. That means the "surface" of the oil is at 54 degrees from horizontal. Maybe a taller narrower external oil...

Re: progress on the banshee...

Eventually I want a cam in a LZ9, with VVT, I think the most viable plan for this will be to cut the nose off of a stock LZ9 cam, and grind the end down on a performance 3x00 cam, then bore the nose of the LZ9 cam to make it a press fit on the 3x00 camshaft, maybe with some green loctite or somethi...

Re: Dry sump oil control, a thread.

I haven't done much yet, but I plan to deposit my dry sump research here as I look into dry sumping a 60V6. Problems needing addressed: -new oil pump mount -old oil pump -oil reservoir -lines -oil pan -engine oil supply -oil pump drive? -turbo drain? Some thoughts how many stages? can you have too ...

Re: Who wants to design a LZ itb intake and 3d print it?

there are a ton of design restrictions with a 3900 intake that don't seem apparent until you try and build one and realize nothing fits as easily as it should, Yeah, even Ferrari had to go from a 60 to a 65 degree bank angle on their V12's because packaging a fully developed intake tract in a 60 de...
