Re: My 3.4 DOHC powered red and black camo '88 Fiero Track Car

New seat! Got a Sparco Evo to replace my very very old (1999 build date, I think) Sparco Rev. I also put new upholstery on the Corbeau A4 on the passenger side. Went from red seats to black ones. I might do custom upholstery at some point to spice things up a bit, but I'm liking the black for now. I...

Re: The SERIOUS Wheel & Tire Thread

Now running 315/30/18 rear and 265/35/18 fronts on my 88. The tires are Nankang CR-S (200tw). The wheels are Apex SM-10 18x9.5 ET35 and 18x11 ET35. I'm running a small (3 or 5mm) spacer in the rear to clear the trailing link, which is lowered by 45mm at the upright compared to the stock. Otherwise m...

Re: Daily RX8 with LFX?, lol

I drove some special edition but otherwise stock MT RX8 once and it was an absolute blast. Punches way way way above it's pay grade. Probably one of the best car chassis ever made. Just needs a good reliable engine with at least 300hp. An LFX/LGX swap would be awesome.

I'm not sure about autocrosses, but for track days you're less than 2 hours from Carolina Motorsports Park. That's a great facility. I've done a couple track days there.

Nice, I am staying tuned to see how this goes. I got a new tank from Rodney to prepare for a returnless setup for my next swap.

are the clips you're using to hold the speed sensor cable to the brake line 3d printed? how are your prints holding up in environments like that? care to give us a run down on your printer and process? I 3d printed some hubcap adapters for my car at one point, but they warped in the heat here in SC...

Dude, massive thumbs up for executing and seeing this through... :good: :good: :good: Thanks! I'm glad I stuck with it. This is a really fun car now. Also, I'm sure everyone here would like to know more about the BMW abs... read about a few NASA C5/C6's that use Mk60 kit supplied from Doug Wardell....

Re: My 3.4 DOHC powered red and black camo '88 Fiero Track Car

Awesomesauce! And your suspension is stiff enough to keep the fenders off the tires, apparently! :-D I don't want to cut the fenders until I have my widebody flares designed, so in the meantime I added a long polyurethane foam bump stop that gets to around 1000#/in close to fender contact. It works...

Re: My 3.4 DOHC powered red and black camo '88 Fiero Track Car

Slayed some cones over the weekend at a PCA event and then Corner Exit Autocross. I definitely lost a lot of skill due to my 8 year hiatus from motorsports, but I picked up a lot of speed throughout the weekend. At least it's coming back. No major issues with the car other than my rear camber slippi...

Re: 1988 Fiero track car

Exhaust is done and looks great (in my completely unbiased opinion). Only remaining thing is I'll probably need some kind of heat shield on the bumper plastic but we'll see once the car is running. I'm melting my bumper with less exhaust heat and more clearance to the tips. Add the shields and don'...

Re: LZ9 and LZ4 Fiero Swap Parts

I was checking out Onshape, and it looks like it has some sort of FEA built into it. However, that looks to be a $$$ paid option. For comparing the strength of different engine mount designs (which can be hard to analyse by intuition with their funky shape), I think that doing sort of basic static ...

Re: My 3.4 DOHC powered red and black camo '88 Fiero Track Car

Can the BMW unit just work with a vehicle model, or does it also need empirical trial-and-error tuning? Most people using these on race cars don't even customize the model. At least for ABS it seems to be quite competitive with the stock M3 programming. If I ever enable the DSC functionality there'...

Re: My 3.4 DOHC powered red and black camo '88 Fiero Track Car

Getting close to ready for real shakedown run. Maybe an autocross or track day in February. New wheels and tires mounted. 265/35/18 front and 315/30/18 rear on Apex SM-10 wheels 18x9.5 front 18x11 rear. Wheel speed sensor cables routed and working. Laptop in the pic is running INPA for bleeding the ...

Re: My 3.4 DOHC powered red and black camo '88 Fiero Track Car

Getting serious. My new prototype rear uprights are on the car, and a massive stack of wheels and tires has arrived. Unfortunately while installing the uprights I discovered my Konis have dumped most of their gas charge so I need to move forward my Bilstein project or get the Konis rebuilt (and migh...

Re: '88 wheel bearing and hub upgrades

I personally would prefer the mechanical parking brake, are the electric units lighter? I can't imagine them being lighter than a cable, but I could be wrong. It's a mechanical drum-in-hat brake. The actuator I'm referring to only replaces your stock brake handle with a button you can mount anywher...

Re: F40 Differential Spline Data - CV Spud options

You thinking to cut the tripod and weld on a flange to the stub? I don't see why that couldn't work. Even some of the OE Audi/VW tripods have a welded on flange.
Now that I think about it I talked to Chris West about 930 axles a few weeks ago and he said he has done exactly that for an F40 before.

Re: '88 wheel bearing and hub upgrades

the rears look fantastic! are you considering production of them? I've been slowly working on a design of my own, but I am much more impressed with what you have come up with! does it have provisions for a parking brake? I'm considering putting them in production if there's enough interest. It uses...
