Re: rules of hotrodding...
This reminds me of a previous customer (now good friend) who brought me his '57 Chevy, that I had previously done other work on, to have me put a power steering conversion kit in it for him. He decided to stay and help me do it, and I'm glad he was here to see how much of a PITA it was and how absol...

Re: 91-93 3.4 DOHC (LQ1) with OBD II PCM
You can use the OBD2 PCM to run a 3.4 DOHC engine and a manual transmission. But I'm afraid you are going to need both the 1x Cam sensor AND the 24x crank sensor that resides behind the balancer. My testing on another OBD2 V6 (3100) revealed that when the 24x sensor was disconnected and even if all ...

Re: ebay cunts
BEFORE ebay changed the feedback policy to what it is now (ie: not allowing sellers to leave retaliatory negative feedback on buyers)... I bidded on and won a set of collectable various Buick pins from a seller on ebay. Sent him the paypal money and waited. And waited. And waited. Nothing showed up,...

Re: The Mule rides again (sort of) - pics.
The problem isn't vapors so much as droplets. The mass of vaporized oil is tiny considering the low vapor pressure of oil. And since droplets are what an oil separator is designed to separate... Yes, I think it will work. The ProVent has 3 ports... air inlet, air outlet and oil drain. Connect the a...

Re: The Mule rides again (sort of) - pics.
For one thing, it blows oil smoke in embarrassing situations. I can't show off an engine I built myself and then have it blow a puff of oil smoke when I start it  Do you think the ProVent will be able to handle the amount of oil vapors your engine will produce without itself producing an anno...

Didn't think you would have any luck there, as there is no way I know of to get datastream PID address info out of a Tech 2 scanner. The Dark Side of Will wrote:No dice on PID's from TECH 2.
Too bad you didn't live closer - I'd just have you bring the car by and I'd hook my Tech 2 up to it.

Re: The Mule rides again (sort of) - pics.
I have never seen a PID list (the one I think you are actaully looking for) in ALLDATA or MITCHELL on DEMAND. All the GM service manual gives you is a general SCAN TOOL (data) DEFINITIONS list that just explains that "LTFT" is Long Term Fuel Trim and stuff like that. Seems like it is somet...

65535 is a valid (maximum) 16 bit value which = FFFF in hex 65.535 does not look like any divisor or multiplier I've ever seen (but just because I haven't seen it doesn't mean it isn't used). AFAIK, the data communicated to the scanner from the PCM is going to be communicated in HEX values. The scan...

Re: The Mule rides again (sort of) - pics.
Cool. I'll give it a shot. Anything you'd recommend for a replacement? Silver sharpie? The cylinder numbers for each coil position should be molded into the ignition module and should be visible even with the coils installed. So why do you need numbers printed on the coils? I think it looks better ...

Re: The Mule rides again (sort of) - pics.
Replaced coils with NOS units from ebay. Problem appears to be solved. However, the replacement resulted in a change of engine configuration. Now instead of cylinders 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8, I have cylinders 2, 2, 2, 5, 5, 5, 1 & 4 A little bit of carb cleaner or some strong brake cleaner ...

I don't need a dyno to tune it. But the dyno shop schedules these jobs and just pays me as a sub-contractor.Series8217 wrote:Why do you need a dyno to tune cold start? Isn't it all low-load driveability stuff that you can tune just as easily on the street?

Re: The Mule rides again (sort of) - pics.
Yeah... I hadn't thought about it from the tuning perspective. The cylinder size and injector parameters are obviously right or it wouldn't run as well as it does the rest of the time. Could the hot start tables really be so far out that it wouldn't start at all? Also, I would expect it to sputter ...

Re: 88 L36 swap
Yep, there's going to be more gusseting done in several places when it comes back out, I decided to not get too far along incase I had to change any mounts if it ended up really crooked. Along with the extra gusseting I'm, going to trim and tidy up the mounts. What's your thoughts on how far forwar...

Re: 88 L36 swap
See attached picture. If I were you, I would add a triangle gusset plate where I drew the red line. The transmission is going to try to push down on the mount in that back corner and you really need to have a gusset plate installed as I showed to keep that bushing sleeve from trying to bend the brac...

Re: The Mule rides again (sort of) - pics.
Invoke a hot non-restart situation. Immediately remove the air intake from the throttle body and spray in some starting fluid - then reconnect the intake tube. See if she will fire right up. If so, your cranking fuel settings in the programming are too lean for hot restart. If it will not start with...
