1987 Fiero GT 5 Speed 3.4L DOHC LQ1 CA Legal
Up for sale is my engine swapped Fiero GT. I got a wild hare up my ass and removed the stock 2.8L V6 in good running condition at around 140,000 miles, and converted the car to install a 3.4L DOHC out of an Olds Cutlass Supreme/Lumina Z34/Monte Carlo Z34. The car has 180,000 miles on it now, 40K on ...

Re: Epic Kludge: WTF Is Going On Here?
I'd call it a finesse kludge... If it yields a professional result, and isn't unnecessarily risky, then so be it!

Re: Quad 4 2.3/2.4 ICM? Relocation?
I don't think the Neon coil pack would work. The GM ICM's buffer and interpret the 7x reluctor wheel signals for the ECM. The ICM sees the analog signals from the sensors and outputs digital so that the ECM only sees digital signals. I think one would be limited to using the actual coils themselves...

Re: Quad 4 2.3/2.4 ICM? Relocation?
Things of great beauty... I got to see a Meyer-Drake era Offy come through the shop I worked for, on the way to the dyno for testing, as well as a real Duesenberg engine, also on it's way to the dyno. Just the attention paid to all the little stopcock valves and polishing and smoothing cam tower cov...

Re: Quad 4 2.3/2.4 ICM? Relocation?
GM always liked to reuse anything they could... Makes engine swaps easier anyways. I always thought that all the DIS ICM's were more or less the same besides differences in cylinders, and would be surprised if there's nothing at all in common signal wise with the Q4 IDI system. Then again, I guess t...

Quad 4 2.3/2.4 ICM? Relocation?
Befarrer, you probably know the answer to this one. I have a 1994 HO Quad and 5 speed I'm going to put in my 2M4, but before I do that I have to get it to start to test it, and the IDI parts were missing when I pulled it. No ICM, no coils. Every 2.3 at every yard I've been to has the ICM missing, an...

Re: 1416 WHP EVO at 57 psi!!
I recognize those type of valve seats... I've installed and machined a good few of them in my time as a race engine machinist. The exhaust seats are indeed Beryllium Bronze (which is some nasty shit if it gets airborne as dust). The intakes aren't though - they're a more yellowish alloy like AMPCO 4...

Re: Darkhorizon + a budget more than a hamburger =
If I had to cut any part of the trunk out (I went to great lengths on my DOHC to keep the trunk intact), the reinforcement bar at the top would be the last thing I'd cut... Sounds like you lose a lot of rigidity between strut towers for like, 1" more clearance - bad payoff IMHO.

Re: Epic Kludge: WTF Is Going On Here?
Update: Finally got the go ahead to put the damn part on the mill like I've been saying all along... Got the whole thing done in 2 hours, including making up a larger diameter boring bar. All is well in the world again!

Re: Epic Kludge: WTF Is Going On Here?
The second part is from a failed project that happened before the forklift drill press portable boring setup... It's a Federal dial bore gauge - a good, reliable bore measuring tool. Reads to .0001" or so accurately. At least it did... We got in 3 parts that were ~25" ID, well over the max...

Re: Epic Kludge: WTF Is Going On Here?
It is with complete shame that I admit that this is the kind of stuff that's been going on at work lately... The part is a large cast iron base for an industrial piece of bakery equipment, in which a huge bowl sits, and rotates on 2 pins to tip over, I imagine. Anyways, the holes became oval shaped ...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vuvuzela I didn't realize that's what those are called. I actually have one I got at a Chinese New Year parade in SF once... Re: 3800 spark cut limiter
I've always wondered how much the exhaust system likes being turned into a full auto potato cannon with spark cut systems... I've banged my engine into fuel cut more times than I can count without damage - obviously designed that way.

Re: old news, D.I. LSx
After playing around with some LS7 heads at the race shop I used to work at, I was under the impression that there was no comparison in flow between the cathedral ports and the rectangular port heads... Could almost shove my big ass hand into the rectangle ports (they were CNC race ported, but so we...
