Re: New ride. A little roomier than the Fiero

Aaron; I've now managed 16,000km on it (8 weeks of ownership?). It's heading into the shop this weekend coming up for the scheduled maintenance. So far, the only thing "wrong" is a slight clatter from the front-end. Since it was a Winnipeg car, I'm willing to bet that the constant cheese-g...

Re: New ride. A little roomier than the Fiero

No point really; I could yank out all the creature comforts, but I'd just be adding the weight back in spades when I pack all my tools, parts, and boxes though... I think I'll leave this one more-or-less alone... It's quick and obnoxious enough at a red light to make me grin a little bit while at wo...

Re: Stopped by to say "Hi."

Stimpy, not a day goes past when I don't ask myself the SAME question. What troubles me the most isn't the insecurity of not knowing one's self... It's more that every time I ask it, I get a different answer. They say that madness isn't a lone howl at the moon... Sometimes it's a soft inner voice at...

Re: Stopped by to say "Hi."

I remember him... And I see that he's still single-handedly responsible for about 3/4 of the new threads. What's killing me is that my on/off schedule combined with a total lack of garage has pretty much nixxed any chance of getting my 99% complete Fiero on the road this year... Which leaves me with...

Re: New ride. A little roomier than the Fiero

Don't know/care which gallon... Whatever ~6.6/100km on a 3/4 tank of gas works out to :p That is based on me topping my ass up on Portage Avenue on the way out of the 'peg, and topping it up again the next morning and glancing at the trip odometer... So obviously, there will be some margin of error ...

Stopped by to say "Hi."

Hi. I think I just about regret taking this job... I haven't worked a shift less than 12 fucking hours this week, and I've been On-Call for the past 3... The only thing worse than being paged into work at 3:30am is being paged out to work in FUCKING SWIFT CURRENT (2.5hr drive) at 3:30 am... On the b...

New ride. A little roomier than the Fiero

Visited the fam'bly in Winnipeg a couple weeks ago. Didn't remember a damn thing about the drive home... But after I'd had the chance to sleep off the Bennies and chocolate covered espresso beans, I came out to my car the next morning to find a large deer-shaped hole in the front of it.... S...

I'll basically be Robocop, only still alive and without being half machine.
Try to keep it that way, huh?

Stay safe, stay alert, and keep your head down.

FTFY :salute:

Depending on how heavy you're into it, I've heard 8mpg out of these things :)

My family's owned many fords. For varying reasons, but mostly because they are cheap. At least, they were initially cheap... There's a few mechanics that definitely could afford nicer cars because of us... The 99 Focus was worthless. We bought it at 30,000k, and by the time it had turned 180,000k, m...

Broken piston skirt would do it, too...

Dunno if you have 'em locally, but Acklands Grainger parts/supply has a borescope (sorta) for $149... Oil-proof and submersible.

I'm trying to bully my boss to get one for me :)

I think that people may have to come to grips with the idea that the big 3 can't recover...

Sucks horse testicles, but it's hard to steer a container ship to safety if you've been ignoring the lighthouse for years, and the bow's already crunching over the rocks.

Without touching anything structural.... 1) Remove the splashguard plastics from the wheel-wells, or at least trim back what isn't completely and utterly necessary. 2) Switch to a REAL lightweight wheel and low-profile tire 3) Remove the spare. 4) Remove all the plastic under the front hood. 5) Tear...

So, 14 hours to grab a brew with some possible serial barnyard rapist from the internet is out of the question, huh?

Probably for the best, really. The best I can offer is a promise not to make a windchime out of your genitals...

I'm in Chicago this week doing a training seminar... Anyone want to go grab a beer one of these evenings?

I AM getting paid by the mile (good!) But my $1800 corolla doesn't have anywhere near the ergonomic refinements of a $400,000 Kenworth (bad). I've never driven a rig, but I have sat in them, and the seats are positively top-notch. One upside of the nose-diving economy is that cars and trucks are plu...

Congrats on the new President

Color me impressed.

While the Canadian elections a couple weeks ago barely squeaked past a 53% turnout, looks like you yanks managed to pull what, 80%?

That is fucking UNBELIEVABLE.

Well done. :salute:
