Re: Stumped - No Start stock '87 duke

I do not have another PROM. Not even sure where to get one. So get this. I just went back to work late tonight to load my car on the dolly and put it on the back yard for a while. I need to work on the Lemons car instead of the Fiero so away it goes for now. I grabbed the original starter since I ne...

Re: Stumped - No Start stock '87 duke

Cleaned all the grounds I could find. Two on the bellhousing studs, one at the head next to the battery and one below the battery tray. No change. Tried the backup ignition module/crank sensor / coil pack assembly from another running duke. No change. Hooked up a noid light. Flashes during cranking....

Re: Stumped - No Start stock '87 duke

The injector will not dribble/spray/pour fuel with KOEO. It will still flood during cranking however. I performed the hot-wire injector test: Jumped fuel pump for constant pressure. Used jumper wires with alligator clips, the +12V right to the battery and the - neg to chassis ground. Everytime I clo...

Re: Stumped - No Start stock '87 duke

CLASSIC symptoms of flooding from excessive fuel delivery. God I hope you are right on the sticking injector theory. My dumb ideas haven't worked so far. I pulled ignition module, the crank sensor just looks so cheap. I'll have to snap a pic of it. There are pieces of metal or different plastic sti...

Re: Stumped - No Start stock '87 duke

4.5 volts on the map sensor tells me your computer thinks you are near 0 vacuum aka full throttle. Key on engine off I think map voltage should be around 2.5. Good idea, I had to think about that one for a while last night as well. Engine off the manifold should normalize to atmospheric pressure th...

Re: Stumped - No Start stock '87 duke

I looked at the TPS last night as well. Full closed pedal throttle is 0% and 0.49 volts. As I slowly step into the pedal the percentage rises to 80% max and voltage did not show any spikes (I had the signal on scrolling graph mode to catch spikes). This was done ignition on, engine off. I have anoth...

Re: Stumped - No Start stock '87 duke

Do the injectors start leaking as soon as you turn the key to run, or do you have to crank it first? Do the injectors leak if you hotwire the pump to run with the key off? Interesting, I did not know MAP was used in cold open loop operation. So I checked a couple things. Before starting the car: Co...

Yeah I bought an OTC Genisys with the OBD I and II cables and chips. Software through 2005 domestic ECM, ABS and AIRBAG modules.

Re: Stumped - No Start stock '87 duke

I'm still at war with my car but I'm going to keep this post going with what I've done and what helped so maybe someone down the road can read it and my suffering won't be completely in vain. The car now starts but ONLY if I WOT during cranking to activate "clear food mode." Today the car ...

Re: Stumped - No Start stock '87 duke

My car is officially a woman. I didn't understand any of the logic behind low fuel pressure causing a flood rich condition but I'm desperate. I read the S-10 forums for a while then just head out to change the fuel pressure regulator diaphragm. Got it in there the right way, tightened it down, key o...

Re: Stumped - No Start stock '87 duke

Ever replace the fuel pressure regulator? I did not replace the regulator yet since the pressure was within spec but I guess it's worth a try as well. And I've been looking for a running duke and turns out that is just as hard to find as making one run. These used to be a dime a dozen when I was gr...

Re: Stumped - No Start stock '87 duke

Thanks for the suggestion Eric. I checked TPS with the scan tool. It's reading 0.75 volts at closed pedal and will move upward linearly with throttle opening. I believe if TPS is over 2.5 volts the engine will not start as it recognizes this as a frozen open throttle condition. But they are cheap en...

Re: Stumped - No Start stock '87 duke

F-me. The saga continues. Does it *HAVE* a PROM? Are you asking if there are ones and zeros on the prom chip? I'll have to answer with "I don't know." Or are you asking if I'm too stupid to read the big blue sticker on the new ECM that reminds me to put the prom in from the old ECM? I was ...

Re: Stumped - No Start stock '87 duke

Ever felt like you have literally been shit on? Got to work this morning and realized my laptop was at home, spilled coffee on my desk, drove all over to look at four houses for sale and they ALL had bad water damage so it's befitting that the new ECM did NOT fix my car. I bought a A1 Cardone reman ...

Re: Stumped - No Start stock '87 duke

Sweet, thanks Series. That helps confirm my diagnosis then. I've owned a fair amount of shitty vehicles over the years and have never replaced an ECM so I was pretty skeptical. I followed the factory service manual diagnostics: Check engine light on --> good ALDL connection through OBD1 scanner --> ...

Stumped - No Start stock '87 duke

I'll preface this post by admitting I've worked on cars and Fieros for about 15 years now and I'm state certified mechanic and automotive engineer (which basically means I'm not a total jackass and the gas tank is not empty). So the daily driver had been surging a little at idle and one time actuall...

Re: Government stupidity

Wow, so many quotes to point out and refute. I'll just say ditto Dark Side and wtf to Fastback. The first time I heard about what was actually going on with C4C I was enraged. I could not believe someone would actually ruin running engines like that. Unbelievable. Here watch it in action. Don't tell...

Re: Another MPG Thread

I have the same question I guess. I bought a '87 GT 5 speed in California this summer while I was out there so I would have a car to drive. Plus I liked the whole not having a rusted terd thing. I beat on the car pretty good out there to see if anything would give out easily before the 2000+ mile tr...

It was off another Fiero. I didn't look at the VIN for the year. I'll check next time I go back there.

Re: How to properly beat on a Fiero

HAHA, uhhh no. But they did get their butts kicked by a Jeep Cherokee which was pretty cool. I haven't seen the numbers but I'm pretty sure I'm in second to last place only beating the AWD 400 HP Trailblazer SS on hand whose excuse for poor times was running on all seasons. What kind of half bald ti...
