Re: Totally unoriginal LQ1 build thread

I think the short-runner intake 3.4 TDC was spun up to 7600, I'll check next time I'm home. But the rpm isn't really a concern to me. The stock ones will, obviously, spin up to 7,600 without an issue so I'm sure the 48s will go past whatever the stocks stop at. But, and especially with a turbo, are...

Re: Totally unoriginal LQ1 build thread

Gouges in lifters is usually do to no oil. If it had normal wear with no gouges then I would say oiling is fine. Lol @ 8600 rpm on a cast 3.1 gm crank. I got a lot of race stuff from a circle track racer of the 60 degree motor and he would spin it to 8k rpm sometimes. He broke a couple of cranks an...

Re: Totally unoriginal LQ1 build thread

I'll post pics asap on this one, but while reassembling the cam carriers I took a quick look at the lifters. (I just put them in a baggie before shipping the block and heads off to the engine shop and was half way expecting to replace them for good measure) The cam lobes have gouged a divit into the...

What numbers did you put down with your setup? dyno? You utilized a GT35, correct?

thanks...

Has anyone turbo'd a fiero lq1 with the stock 96 intake manifold with a N* throttle body?

Didn't Aaron do this?

Re: '88 front wheel bearing/hub upgrade

Awesome.. What material will you be having these cut from? Although a year, if not more behind you.. I'm very interested in a set of these as well. Keep us posted. Although we can have our rear hubs machined for achieva hubs, can they also be machined for the C5/C6? SKF has a set of racing hubs for ...

Did Nascho use the stock rear hub/bearing or the stronger Achieva front hubs?

Re: Totally unoriginal LQ1 build thread

While waiting for the engine to finish at the shop (Machinist time remember) and finishing up the engine bay and interior... I'm looking at the front suspension. I've SCCA'd my old 87 back in the 90s enough to know that even with koni's, eibachs, new bushings, etc.. that the front can be very twitch...

Re: Totally unoriginal LQ1 build thread

Other than coating it properly for corrosion, would 1/4" 7075 aluminum pose any problems in this situation as a hub and caliper plate vs mild steel? I've got a local metal supermarket that can water jet or cnc off of a cad file.. so I'm dusting off my intro cad skills from college with freeCAD ...

Re: Totally unoriginal LQ1 build thread

While finishing up the stripping down of my pre88 cradle I took the opportunity, at several member's request, to illustrate the C5 rear parking brake that the PO had implemented. Here's the backside of the setup: https://h62haa.bay.livefilestore.com/y2pQKENMBLEamy53g7WCSOOcm8n063CM7k2eADsW7_epZcZOTP...

Re: Going with a 3.4 DOHC Twin boosted

The IMS front bearing on the abused 15K LQ1 I pulled recently was coming apart as well. The debris found in my main and rod bearings were probably from that, however, it did endure 3-4 jumped belts and a broken timing chain so I'm sure all manner of non-typical loads were present.. I wonder if, on a...

Re: Going with a 3.4 DOHC Twin boosted

Can we even say Ferrari Fan's spun bearing was a power failure? It could've been coincidence. And I don't believe increasing power would make the bearings any more failure prone would it? I guess his oil temps could have gotten too high because of the turbo, we'll never know that for sure though. T...

Re: Going with a 3.4 DOHC Twin boosted

I agree, I did a fair amount of searching on failed LQ1's prior to sending mine off to the machine shop, and found time and time again, spun bearing after spun bearing... should've databased my findings but it was pretty prevalent.. but very little to no failure on those that were properly maintaine...

Re: My kingdom for a cradle

C5 ebrake setup from the hubs and knuckles. Do you have photos of this? I was thinking of adding C5 parking brakes to my car. It would be interesting to see how someone else did it. Let me clean them up as they are caked with texas dust and I'll gladly take pics and post them over in my build threa...

Re: My kingdom for a cradle

I removed the 282 and C5 ebrake setup from the hubs and knuckles. They came out without fanfare and the setup is quite simplistic. I'm going to see if they can be adapted to the 88 knuckles.. Regardless, short of being cleaned the cradle is ready to go to you or the metal recylcer. As mentioned prev...

Re: My kingdom for a cradle

If you could pay for shipping... goto Uship.com and bid for a quote... I've got an 86 cradle I was about to scrap. I've also got a pallet I could strap it to.. I don't know how much of the knuckle/hub I'll be able to keep as I'm going to try and surgically remove a C5 emergency brake setup and trans...
