Getrag 282 Kent-Moore rebuild tools

I’m unloading the last of my Fiero stuff and thought this group would appreciate an already compiled set of tools for a 282 rebuild. $200 plus shipping from 97217. I’ve used these myself and the setup is all in good order.

For pre-88 suspension? Guessing based on your signature.

Re: Holley Hydramat

New to me, sure looks quick and easy compared to a proper sump! I'll definitely be keeping this in mind when adding injection to an old carbureted car, much slicker than typical options.

Ratios I measured in this Silhouette export transmission are:

1: 3.77
2: 2.19
3: 1.38
4: 1.03
5: .80
Final: 3.94

Re: Getrag 282 insights

I guess I should also mention the 282 first is a 3.5 and the T550 is a 3.77 in case that affects bearing/thrust designs as well. I'll see if I can find part numbers for Fiero and later T550 applications to compare.

Re: Getrag 282 insights

I haven't put it together yet, but I have that style bearing and thrust washer for my 3.94 output shaft. I anticipate no problems. I didn't know that was T-550 part... I thought it was a 3.94 part. I don't have any 3.94 282 or other T550 gearboxes to compare, so you could be right; I hadn't conside...

Re: Getrag 282 insights

I'm trying to combine one of the new Opel Silhouette (quad 4) NVG T550 transmissions with my original Fiero Getrag 282. I wanted to use the Fiero first, second, and fifth gear ratios while using the Silhouette third, fourth, reverse, and final drive. Of course, I'm also trying to use as many of the ...

There are non-Germans, but I can't think of any non-European from my personal experience.

Re: Lug bolts vs studs and nuts

Why do some automotive engineers choose to go with lug bolts instead of studs? Weight Cost Appearance Corrosion If your customer is willing to accept the risks/hassle for the above, it makes a lot of sense. Since the hub needs threaded for the lug bolts (instead of using a press in stud) there's re...

Re: COMPACT 90 degree mufflers

Do you really plan on retaining a trailer hitch within the scope of the project? Seems like that's a pretty simple sacrifice when you want exhaust volume on a Fiero.

Which peice are you talking about exactly?
I have a console, and the black plastic frame part that goes under it. The console color is tan.
The black plastic piece that goes under the arm rest and up to the stereo area.

Re: 1985 AMC Eagle wagon build

Tearing into it just to count teeth? I guess you like the mess...? ;) I usually just spin the input and count rotations on the output, pretty easy when you don't have a diff inside the trans (or know for a fact what one of the gear sets is).

Re: Cold Cranking amps

Also worth mentioning/considering what starter you're using. I picked up one of the 60° gear reduction starters on a newer 3400 (?) for shits and giggles in a junkyard one day, mostly because of the weight reduction. I have no data to support my theory, but I am guessing that the gear reduction star...

I have also noticed the downward spiral at gmpowertrain.com. Start here and save everything you think you'll need!!! http://archives.media.gm.com/us/gm/en/news/events/pig_index.html I'm intending to do this for the engine/trans info, just haven't got around to it. Maybe we can divide and conquer? Yo...
