Re: '88 wheel bearing and hub upgrades
You can keep the one piece design and the production process you'd envisioned by keeping the arm straight, but moving it outboard. The outer tie rod boss would then be a projection in the inboard direction from the "flat" steering arm. Incrementally heavier? Yes, but it solves both the pa...

Re: Shock Valving, Spring Rates
Wholesaler closeout doesn't necessarily mean they're discontinued, it just means some warehouse is clearing stock. That said, it could be discontinued in this case? If so get em cheap! Correct that it is one box per strut. You could alternatively use NAPA NCP 2643609 which has a separate washer for ...

Cool! Really enjoying the vids. The 1/4 mile data analysis was great.

Re: '88 wheel bearing and hub upgrades
The above swaybar endlink image is actually part of a set of images I took for scanning. The 3D model looks like this when sharing space with the new knuckle. swaybar-endlink-clearance-scan.png I've been bouncing back and forth between integrated and bolt-on steering arms. Since clearing the swaybar...

Re: '88 wheel bearing and hub upgrades
The thinnest load bearing part of the current knuckle design is nearly an inch thick. I'm printing the test fit prototypes from ABS with 3.6mm shells and a lot of infill. It's definitely not deflecting from a few pounds of caliper and hub. I can split the ball joint bosses (layer adhesion failure) b...

Re: '88 wheel bearing and hub upgrades
Test fit the 3D-printed knuckle on the car this weekend. Minor interference between bottom brake caliper mount and lower control arm right at full lock and full bump. I will rotate the brake caliper mount up by a few degrees to clear here. This would likely not even be an issue for most setups -- I'...

The new wrap will be a geometric pattern but it won't be camouflage. Going to design it by hand in Illustrator.

Re: 84-87 Front Suspension for Endurance Racing
That's a neat way to use some off the shelf racing parts. Is that pic before or after the reinforcements? There is a bending load on the LCA due to the spring. The part of your LCA that carries that load looks a little wimpy. Why the pin style mount for your front shock? Seems like you would have pl...

Re: My 3.4 DOHC powered red and black camo '88 Fiero Track Car
I've started removing the vinyl wrap in places where it has deteriorated. Mainly the roof and hood, as well as places where I over-stretched the wrap during installation. The wrap has been on the car for 8 years, which is 1 year beyond the expected performance life for vertical surfaces. Horizontal ...

Updated Corner Weights
I put my car on scales today to get a new baseline and figure out where weight can go as I plan some re-architecting in preparation for the next iteration of this car. I need to shift weight to move from left to right. Any ideas? What I have on the list so far: - Move fire extinguisher from left b-p...

I'll shift the range of adjustment so it can get a little more negative than stock. Easy enough to cut em off or leave em out if there's an issue.

Re: Shock Valving, Spring Rates
I think you can ditch the "limiters" on camber adjustment. As long as the bolt is tight, the extent of the hole should be fine. That also lets you easily increase camber by slotting the hole further The tabs are for the eccentric washers on the camber bolt to push against. Makes camber ad...

Re: Shock Valving, Spring Rates
The housings I have are in pretty rough shape. The "taco" clamp has a lot of rust. It's is a multilayered stamped steel component that is welded to the Bilstein strut tube. Lots of crevices for water to get in and not get out. The mount is actually bulging where rust has expanded between t...

Re: Shock Valving, Spring Rates
Fill valve installed!
Just need to decide on valving now. These struts will get 500 lb/in springs.
Has anyone experimented with atypically-low rear compression damping to reduce turn-in oversteer on a Fiero?

Re: Shock Valving, Spring Rates
Maybe a Presta valve (for road bicycle tire) would fit better than Schrader within the confines of the mounting stud thread. I have not seen Presta valves rated to the required 500 psi and 200-300*F that the nitrogen chamber valve experiences. The Penske IU-22S valves happen to be a perfect fit and...
