Re: Lz9 rotating assembly weights

So the big end would need to be narrowed like a typical SBC rod when converting to our engines as the LS engines have a similar rod width to the old sbc rod It seems that the coating comes off the rods at the big end, since that's where the rods in a stock V8 application share a rod journal, so they...

Re: Lz9 rotating assembly weights

Ls7 also uses a Ti rod but it's listed at 6.067. Weight is similar to ls9 rod. With a 3.9 crank, ls7 rod, you would need a compression height of about 1.1. And whattaya know. It exists! Several dishes exist. I found a 16cc which is about 11.7 CR and a 26cc dish for about a 10.2 CR. 600 for forged pi...

Re: Lz9 rotating assembly weights

Expensive proposition but I wanted to get the info in writing so I don't forget about it. Ls9 Ti rod info. Wrist Pin Dia. 0.984 Weight 452-482g Length. 5.99 Big end dia. 2.225 Lz9 has pin dia of .945 and a big end of 2.375. So the ls9 small end can be bushed I would assume, and maybe the big end bor...

Re: Installing 3500, LZ4, for the time being

I pulled a datalog of a stock lz9 with the lnj stock cam, vs the 3.5 with the aftermarket cam. you can see the boost curves at the same rpm here. much less boost on the 3.5 clearly my turbo is oversized for the engine at lower rpm. the 3.5 needs more rpm to make up the difference which is to be expe...

Curious as to what the factory hub runout is? Maybe it's already been mentioned

Re: Lz9 + 4 spd manual trans in 86 GT swap

It seems the camshaft is discontinued from gmparts direct.

I used the 2009 equinox lt trim which should be the 3.4

Welp. That's that I guess. No more available.

Re: Lz9 + 4 spd manual trans in 86 GT swap

You asked why not keep the vvt. I show why, and you say "so".

Hey man, when you do your 3.9 on the stormtrooper you can spend hours tuning your vvt cam for an extra 400 of additional rpm.

Re: Lz9 + 4 spd manual trans in 86 GT swap

It's gonna run a microsquirt amp. Vvt is being deleted for simplicity of swap I have yet to see anyone who kept vvt with an micro or megasquirt do a Dyno to see where their power peaks. However j upon did dynod his with his modified vvt and it wasn't dialed in correctly. I believe power fell off bef...

Re: Lz9 + 4 spd manual trans in 86 GT swap

Are the block casting numbers different? It doesn't look like there's enough iron to move that bolt hole outboard 4mm The earlier blocks have the bolt pattern the same as the 2.8. there is no need to move the bolt hole out further Eric is saying the lz9 is out a bit further. But it's close enough w...

Got the intakes, valve covers and pushrods out. Still need to remove timing assembly and lifters, then the lnj cam can go in

Interesting idea on the mount. We could do a test fit and give feedback if you want and take some pics.

I've got the front torn off and prepping for the lgd cam swap.

The Dark Side of Will wrote: Fri Nov 17, 2023 2:39 pm I thought the 3900 had the upper water manifold at the back. I guess I was wrong about that.

Are the water manifolds two separate pieces or one large cover as with the Gen II & III engines?
The water manifold is one piece but it's separate from the timing cover.
