Re: Emissions: NOX just a little too high
The CAT is two years old, don't know how many miles. It's a daily driver, so probably a lot, several thousand for sure. Put it on right before I went for smog last time because the time before that it just barely passed, though I don't recall what the issue was back then 4 years ago. Would a new CAT...

Re: Emissions: NOX just a little too high
will adding drygas help with the nox? I heard people doing thta trick. I guess the alky in it burns a bit cleaner and you just need it to pass. I think its funny they are worried about your car and the pollution it produces over all the pollution and air quality from the fires. Guess they don't wan...

Re: Emissions: NOX just a little too high
I've got a bad feeling it's the solenoid - of course, the most expensive part in the damn system. TK advised I try manually holding the RPMs at 2500-3000 while feeling the EGR to see if it opens (with a glove on, of course). Not only did it not move, but there didn't appear to be any vacuum at all c...

Re: Emissions: NOX just a little too high
Don't know...anybody?
It's also been suggested that my 1986-vintage EGR may well still be functional, but not working as well as it should. Would like to be sure of that before I start throwing money at it in the form of a $45+ replacement valve.

Re: Emissions: NOX just a little too high
Good news and bad news. Turns out I did, at some point, swap the thermostat back to the stock 195* unit, but it was also stuck open. New stat fixed that. Set the timing back to ~4* advanced (so damn hard to see those timing marks) and took another run at it this morning when they opened and ambient ...

Re: WTF is this diff housing?
Trying to make out the letters on the end cover, the three on the top appear to be either OHV or AHO, but I can't tell which way they should be oriented. Can't make out the rest of the letters. Looks like two words with a dot or dash in the middle.

Re: Emissions: NOX just a little too high
As best I can tell, yes. The valve is physically operable and the vacuum lines have been replaced with aluminum tubing, so there shouldn't be a vacuum leak. Idle is right where it should be. The car throws an intermittent code 32 on when cruising on the freeway, but it hasn't done it in a long time ...

Emissions: NOX just a little too high
Went to get my car smogged today and she just barely failed the NOX test. Two years ago, this car passed with flying colors and I haven't modified it since, so I'm not sure where to start. What I know: The PCV was disconnected, an oversight on my part but not NOX causing. It was 95 degrees out today...

Re: 996tt vs C6 Z06
Where'd you read that? I think it's more likely that the requirements for the transmission were conveyed to Borg Warner(?) early in the development process for the car. The car's weight then grew and to maintain performance Nissan grew engine power, leaving the transmission behind. The GTR's chief ...

Re: 996tt vs C6 Z06
I don't know why they'd put a car into production that has a feature that will grenade the car after 10 runs. Seems stupid to me. I know a guy that has one, it is a monster of a car though. Because it wasn't supposed to be a "launch control" feature in the first place. The program was mea...

Re: V6 exhaust?
For the record, when you said hoist, I assumed you meant one of these: http://www.northerntool.com/images/product/images/144847_lg.jpg It's not unusual to see a shade tree mechanic lifting their car with one of these and not supporting it. People like to use them to lift the rear of the Fiero by the...

Old Suburban powered by a 500 cid Cadillac mated to a 4L80E? That's one hell of a mutt you got there. Does it have Fiero seats too?

Re: New Truck?
I'd recommend diesel, I've hauled with both Diesel does better, gets better mpg, and seems to be more reliable. In fact the last diesel truck I drove was an F350 and I was dragging a 454 gas GMC topkick. When I sold parts, the diesel parts were way easier to find than than 8.1s, or dodge and fords ...

Re: turbo cobalt
Do they offer the turbo in the sedan? The 4 door SS's used to just be trim when the coupes used the supercharger. I watched a stock turbo coupe turn 14.8 all night long at the strip and the supercharged cars were running 15.4, there were 3 supercharged SS, one ion supercharged, and one turbo SS. Al...

Re: Pre-88 rear susp. geometry
To do any meaningful fix, the forward pivots of the control arms need to be raised. This can't happen to any significant degree because the left one is directly under the transmission. Spring rates and damper settings don't actually address the camber gain. They simply restrict suspension motion to...

Re: turbo cobalt
Great engine, great chassis, just about everything else sucks. I looked at em for a while, but the rest of the car is just too cheap.
