Re: 87 Fastback L47 Chump Car/ Lemons Project.
I did some more front hub work. Front rotors are off a C4. They are take off's from a 13" brake C4 front end with black painted, "Corvette" embossed, PBR calipers, which to me tells me this would be a Grand Sport front I think... http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b361/FieroWannaBe/Chu...

Re: 87 Fastback L47 Chump Car/ Lemons Project.
It is the Early Small GM Drum Hub (also known as the corvair hub)
the pressing will be for the adapter for the seal, as the new hub uses much larger seals. (1.75 vs 1.5 sealing surface.)

What are you putting back into the white car? That car is getting an dry-sumped LS4 and '07 F40 and 88 Cradle Here are the finished welded rear frame rails, I blame the ugly welds on the quality of the old metal it has a lot of corrosion on the backside. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b361/Fiero...

Re: Totally unoriginal LQ1 build thread
Ff $40 gets you laser and material, for a whole bank (not just one cylinder like the gaskets are) you would be much happier with the quality of cut from a laser. Material alone is almost 3/4 of that cost for me since I don't keep anything on hand, I do not do production on any level, its always piec...

Re: Totally unoriginal LQ1 build thread
My machine is similar in operation, but a lot less industrial. If you can send me a model of what you want the final product to be, I can make my CAM file to suit, that's the safest route I think. 1/2" flanges are going to have a nasty kerf since my plasma is only rated for 5/8" steel. Sta...

Re: Totally unoriginal LQ1 build thread
I can plasma some flanges out, but they wont be very pretty looking, and would need some clean up work with a stone.

Re: tuned equal length header question
The end goal of a long-tube header is to provide a strong enough exhaust pulse reflection that yeilds a depression and pressure differential across the exhaust valve and overlap period, complimented by a higher pressure pulse at the intake, we can provide a greater gas flow through the combustion ch...

Re: '88 wheel bearing and hub upgrades
I ordered the crown tapered hub assemblies, I want to be able to get them before they aren't available. Picked the last 2 in stock off an amazon vendor for 89$ each. When they Arrive I will measure the key characteristics. If they look like they will suffice, I will be developing a weldment rear knu...

Re: new member, problems with crankshaft sensor v6
The 7X wheel has a notch for each cylinder TDC. The 7th notch is 10 degrees after TDC. There should be an article on the mega manual for gm DIS that would be helpful.

More compact hubs to look into: 2004-2006 Pontiac GTO 2008-2009 Pontiac G8 / 2011-2013 Chevrolet Caprice 2008-2014 Cadillac CTS / 2010-2014 Chevrolet Camaro (SKF has assymytric units applicable to all 4 corners on the ZL1/1LE) They are all similar but differ some amount they flange offset is very sm...

Re: '88 front wheel bearing/hub upgrade
I would also pay close attention to LeMons and Chump Car forums for J-body racers, From my in-person conversations, most teams run through a set of Parts-store (lifetime warranty) hubs per race (that being 1 7 hour day, 2 races per weekend, and some times sooner.) there failures are usually due to h...

Re: '88 front wheel bearing/hub upgrade
I see many cartridge bearing failures, at regualr intervals from aftermarket unit, due to the housing race surface failing, and from excessive play. This is especially more common the heavier the vehicle is it came on. Chevy pick-ups have been bad for it in my shop, and Large FWD GM's. Some make it ...

Re: '88 front wheel bearing/hub upgrade
I imagine you would be looking for an OEM XJ front hub. I'm sure by now the aftermarket has had sufficient time to develop a value engineering Ball bearing unit that has the durability to make it out of the corner shop parking lot before play is noticeable by this time. I may look into this more. Bu...
