Re: Lz9 rotating assembly weights

To work this out, you need to weigh the big end of the connecting rod separately from the small end. I edited the original post to include big end weight. It appears the Pauter rod is lighter on the big end too. By about 7 grams So the big end is lighter than stock but overall heavier. But the pist...

Lz9 rotating assembly weights

Seeing as the lz4 pistons are the same as the 9, the same goes obviously. I didn't weigh an lz4 rod yet Lz9 rod 630g Big end. 471g Lz9 piston with rings and pin 592g Lz9 pin 149 grams Lz9 piston with rings 444g Reciprocating weight = 751g Pauter rods 655g Big end 464g JE piston with rings and pin 53...

Re: Pauter rods for 3900 engine???

I used the je 321238 overbore pistons on my first build. Block did not need to be decked. But the pistons sat .006 in the hole instead of proud by .004. either due to the crank slightly short of the 3.31 stroke, the deckheight more than 8.818 by a smidge, or a combo of the two. It didn't matter to m...

Re: Pauter rods for 3900 engine???

Drop in replacement forged Pistons stock bore. JE 321237. Has a 19cc dish. Compression ratio comes out to 11.1:1. I believe JE says they weigh 421 grams. Not sure what stock is. .007 overbore is JE 321238 with a 21cc dish. CR is about the same. $750 at summit with about a 4 week lead time. These pis...

Reis engines don't last long enough to need dry sumps either.

Re: wet sump engine oil control, a thread.

Fieros aren't going around corners at sustained 1g Will. This discussion is a total waste of time when it comes to fiero owners and how you drive these 80s shit boxes.

Dry sumps aren't necessary in our applications. But you goofballs build it and install it. It's your time and money.

Installing 3500, LZ4, for the time being

It was cheap, and at first I thought it was a 3900, but turns out it was a 3.5. So I figured I'd play with it, see what it could do. 135k miles junkyard Sbe Comp cam 218/236 and around 560/590 lift Pac1218 Arp head studs. That's it. I am reusing one of the 3.5 heads which I swapped the springs onto ...

Re: wet sump engine oil control, a thread.

Here is my opinion but you won't like it. Ditch the idea of a windage tray and or crank scraper. At the end of the day it's a lx9 engine from gm. It's not a formula 1 engine. Not having a crank scraper isn't gonna give you a noticeable loss in power nor is it gonna do anything measurable for oil in ...

Re: Pauter rods for 3900 engine???

Did you check into having 4.3 V6 rods narrowed like Upson (I think?) did? I thought some variation of the 4.3's have the same 2.250" rod journals as the LZ4/LZ9 do. You'd need custom pistons to set the piston deck correctly, but those are cheaper than custom rods. Going to do an unboxing video...

99% sure pickardt performance is not the ls4 oil pan guy.

Moroso oil pan was done by a guy building monte carlos and mating them to 4t80s.

I actually had the same idea when I had my ls4 and found his oil pan by accident while researching options.
