The intake ports are close enough to be the same, the early manifolds will fit and function perfectly.
The later intakes will be better, but I doubt you'd really notice a difference, the later intakes just won't fall off as hard north of 6,000rpm.

Re: WTB - 96-97 LQ1 Intake
I guess you completely skipped my question. Why do you want the later intakes? The early ones will work, and will be a lot easier to find. Keep in mind the lower and upper intake manifold gaskets are different, you need to get the later gaskets for the later intakes or the older ones for the older i...

Re: Totally unoriginal LQ1 build thread
I'm not sure how his will be, but I had a set of flanges cut for my old Lumina from a computer run plasma cutter, and I wasn't very happy with them. One had warped during the cutting, and both needed extensive cleanup before being ready to use. I was much happier with the laser flanges, they were bo...

Re: WTB - 96-97 LQ1 Intake
Are you wanting to swap to the 96-97 for performance? Or just trying to get it together and running? The 96-97 are better for performance, there's little doubt about that, but the earlier ones will be easier to find. I like the 96-97 better for maintenance as they are easier to remove and remove in ...

Mine stopped too after the last crash. Also, after replying to a thread it won't transfer me back to that tooic, it goes instead to a blank page.

Re: Totally unoriginal LQ1 build thread
I have laser cut flanges but they aren't SS. I can't remember where mine are from, but they were cheap and I'm sure they could be cut from SS. For which heads are the made? 91-95 or 96-97 I have the 96-97 heads. Well mine are the early heads, but if the company can do those they can do the late one...

Re: itbs on a 97 3.4dohc
The stock upper fits under the decklid... look at the sketch; what he's looking at will lie flat like the stock upper. Of course it does, but not by much and the factory UIM is about 2" thick, and runs very close to the highest edge of the rear valve cover. His TB's will probably end up needin...

Re: New Guy.
The cast aluminum intake is going to be far more reliable with boost than the plastic intake. Do the plastic intakes have a history of being unreliable under boost? There are plenty of turbo OEM applications with plastic intakes. Now of course these are designed with boost in mind, but if the N/A m...

Re: itbs on a 97 3.4dohc
The problem with the stock lower manifold is that it will cause your runner length to increase dramatically, and maybe to lengths longer than you want. It will also add quite a bit of height to the system. I think cutting the runners off to use the stock lower flange is a great idea personally. Just...

Re: tuned equal length header question
equal length doesn't equate to equal flow. Bends hurt flow. Aarons equal length headers fit, but with all those bends, thats hurting flow. But hey, EQUAL LENGTH BRO!!! I didn't think mine had all that many bends, but your manifolds are obviously the best things ever. Less bends right? By the way, a...

Re: Series inspired me, taking my turbo 3.4 to the track
check your map voltage and your vaccum at that speed. Then try to mimic the vacuum at a different speed and see if it returns. Also verify TPS voltage at that mph and see if perhaps there is a dead spot or a false reading. obd 1.5 might be different but as far as I know, fuel trim is based on tps a...

Re: Series inspired me, taking my turbo 3.4 to the track
Interesting, I'd love to try it but can't be the guinea pig, I simply don't know enough to. I did a lot of testing on my drive home today. To my shock, the Phantom rich condition appears to be speed based. It happens almost religiously between 110 and 120 kph. It happens at any throttle position, an...

Re: tuned equal length header question
Interesting I never knew he made a short runner intake. I'd love to see that video though, too bad its set to private. Series has a similar short runner intake, and combined with a few other basic mods put down like 220whp. I swapped to the 96-97 intakes on my turbo motor, but didn't change the mani...

Re: Series inspired me, taking my turbo 3.4 to the track
Got my clutch line fixed and the new mirror glass put on, and took the car for a 60 or so mile drive. Turns out the fuel gauge is working properly, the needle just isn't even close to being lines up. I'll reset it one of these days. The car runs good at low throttle levels, around town it runs great...

Re: Series inspired me, taking my turbo 3.4 to the track
1.5 is just like 1 from a tuning perspective, it's done via chips. The piggy back simply modifies the MAF signal to the ECU. Simple but it works pretty well. I'd love to go to OBD2, but at the time of the build no one had figured out how, or if, one could get a OBD2 3.4 to cooperate with boost, a ma...

Re: Series inspired me, taking my turbo 3.4 to the track
I think it was only 3. I'm running the 94-95 SFI OBD1.5, I forgot the numbers on it though. Darth tuned a chip to enable the manual trans and 42.5# injectors, and I've got a Split Second FTC1 piggyback controlling fueling under boost.

Re: tuned equal length header question
Without running the calculations, I'd guess 1.75 and a 32-38" primary. I ran extensive number scenarios when I built the equal length set for my Lumina, which was a pretty close to stock motor, and built them at 1.625 X 32 IIRC. Shawn is clueless, disregard anything he says. My DOHC has tuned e...
