Re: LZ4 3500 V6 Swap
Thanks pmbrunelle, Those are good points about what is likely inside the GM sensor. Ringing probably isn't a likely here. I think a push-pull arrangement would be great. However, the mechanical housing of this sensor is complicated enough I'll deal with the pullup resistor rather than reinvent the w...

Did you consider this configuration using the 3900 tensioner? I was really hoping this would be straight-forward...

Re: LZ4 3500 V6 Swap
This is how I see the resistor functioning. The sensor is only capable of pulling the input to ground. The pullup resistor pulls the input high. You could think of it like a cam (sensor) and valve spring (pullup resistor). The cam can open the valve but without the valve spring the valve won't close...

Re: LZ4 3500 rod info and forged Pistons options.
So I took some more measurements. I went to the boneyard, and what I was told was a 3900 turned out to be a 3500. I confirmed this by the part numbers on the rods, and on the front of the crank under the balancer. Anyways, I measured the compression height of the piston. The same pistons is used in...

Re: NA 3900 Build
I like the revised accessory routing scheme you're working on a lot. I think I'll do something similar with a CS121 alternator before moving the engine to the racecar.

Re: LZ4 3500 V6 Swap
I must have missed it, what are your plans for engine managment? Megasquirt? I am using a Microsquirt. I bought a bunch of 1K 1/2W resistors, they will work for pulling WLED up from 5Vref to use as the 3rd spark trigger, and I am hoping it will work for the crank position sensor pullup as well. For...

Re: LZ4 3500 V6 Swap
I think that oil cooler housing came off of an Impala but it was a police car Impala. I took a look online and GM option KD1 for an 08 Impala has the oil to air cooler. I'll keep an eye out for these in the JY. You could label this post- "wouldn't you make a lot more progress if you didn't get...

Re: LZ4 3500 V6 Swap
Very cool, you could definitely design the front mount to locate that idler above the hump which would be a great solution to prevent the need of crossmember modification. You could make a little mount off that front mount for the oil filter relocation also required to avoid crossmember modificatio...

Re: LZ4 3500 V6 Swap
No plans for AC in the near term. The 20-something version of me didn't need AC and took out the lines going to the front of the car. AC would be nice, but it isn't a life or death feature in New England. I do have a plot to rewind a Prius compressor. This would allow me to keep all the AC stuff in ...

LZ4 3500 V6 Swap
Hello guys, I started working on an LZ4 swap some time in the past. It might even be as much as 8 years ago. I wasn't originally going to do a build thread but WTH. Hopefully it will finally run this spring. The motor is already together and in the car, but many of the details have yet to be ironed ...

Re: NA 3900 Build
Where did your valvesprings come from? My springs are COMP Cams 26925-12. I got them from Jegs but any of the major parts houses should have them. I topped them with titanium retainers because apparently I felt rich that week. If I had to do it again I'd get a beehive spring. On the other side, I c...

Re: NA 3900 Build
Thanks! Do you have a build thread by any chance? I started one over on 60degreev6 but the plan changed a lot and I haven't kept up with it. The basic elements are WOT street/strip cam, bearing spacers, dual valve springs, and mild porting on an LZ4. After I get the microsquirt dialed in this motor...

Re: NA 3900 Build
Great work! You've got lots of clever solutions to the challenges of getting this motor into a Fiero. I'll definitely be following along. I'm trying to resurrect my LZ swap this winter with the goal of getting it running this spring. My swap is a little more low buck but with many similarities. It'l...

Re: 84-87 Front Suspension for Endurance Racing
So they're... shorter?... than the stock Fiero shocks? Do they have enough travel for a street car, or only enough travel for a stiffly sprung race car? I bought Bilstein AK1051s which I think are designed to accommodate a lowered G-Body. Between that and the knuckle height changes I ended up with ...

Re: 84-87 Front Suspension for Endurance Racing
Thanks for the replies! Is that pic before or after the reinforcements? The picture is before the reinforcements. Unfortunately I don't have an after picture, car is in winter storage now. Forgive the crude paint sketch. The original tube is gray, spring plate in lighter grey, and the reinforcement ...

Re: 84-87 Front Suspension for Endurance Racing
Hello guys, It works! And it came out pretty close to the original plan with just a few tweaks. One quick correction before we get into it. I thought we had 200lb/in springs out back but they were 275lb/in. Here's what we actually ended up with: - C5 vette front wheels (17" by 8.5") / 4th ...

Yeah, SC to CT would be a long trip for something you could pick up locally for less than the cost of gas.ericjon262 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 10:51 pm if you were closer I'd take it, unfortunately, CT is a bit of a drive for me.

LX9 (3.5L) Block $20 CT Pickup
Hey guys, I have an LX9 block that's taking up space. Bores indicated and all checked out. I just can't see myself building this back up over a stock LA1 or LZ* motor. If you're interested in the crank/rods etc. PM and we can talk. Local pickup only. Would also accept beer as payment :P Thanks! Sam

Re: Pro-Squat & Braking (Early Suspension)
Thanks! I don't think I have actual measurements of the pivot heights with the stock configuration... I guess I need to snag those measurements. I'm pretty sure I can't go as far as you did while having a NorthStar and a right-side decklid hinge box. I was just hoping I could get the inner pivots l...
