Re: 87 Fastback L47 Chump Car/ Lemons Project.

The assembly was not altered from the factory balance. The rods and pistons were reconditioned and re-sized to the factory spec. The additional holes don't do anything to feed pressurized oil at anything past the 180degree range. I did not have the crank cross-drilled, but if I did I would use tri-m...

Re: 87 Fastback L47 Chump Car/ Lemons Project.

I had Clevite Tri-metal Main bearings at first but the oil-groove terminated at 180 degrees, lowering the oil supply to the rod journals compared to the 270 degree groove of the bi-metal King bearings. For those the do not know, the tri-metal Clevites have a steel backing and are stronger (stiffer) ...

Re: 87 Fastback L47 Chump Car/ Lemons Project.

I'm currently on the look for some larger injectors. The engine otherwise is going together fine. Bottom end is stock with King 3/4 groove bearings, Steel Crank Scraper, ARP rod bolts, and Tri-Metal Clevite bearings http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b361/FieroWannaBe/ChumpCar/20150301_095833.jpg htt...

I believe a 3800sc has 36lb injectors, those would be cool, I would prefer the shorter style injector (to fit a lq1)

Thanks.

Re: 87 Fastback L47 Chump Car/ Lemons Project.

The reconditioned cams maybe have a touch more duration. like around 30 degrees more, and maybe 25 thousands more lift. There was a good amount of cleaning up the grinder had to do... That coupled with a mailbox for an intake manifold, I am hoping to open up the top end a few ponies and RPM, ...

Re: 1984 SE Resurreciton

I've been mulling the idea of a NASCAR headed 4.125" bore 3.5" stroke aluminum motor. It would be so nice.... I need to keep my wants in check though. I'm certain I have the 3 Cam Bearing Block, believe these blocks have SD 2.5 cast in the side, The later 5 cam bearing blocks I have seen h...

Re: 87 Fastback L47 Chump Car/ Lemons Project.

Does anyone have a recommendation on what brand water pump to buy? The one I pulled out had an Iron Impeller, and it worked great for street driving with the 4 speed (and at 75mph on the interstate). OE one is 92$ on rock auto, it looks just like the one I pulled of. Gates is 13$, and has a stamped ...

Re: 1984 SE Resurreciton

Most people who have looked into the super duty engines have seen KRP have blocks and crankshafts available. http://www.kansasracingproducts.com/Kansas_Racing_Products/Prices.html It's not commonly known that NAjr has aluminum SD blocks also, and they cost less! http://nickariasjr.com/engine-blocks-...

Re: 1984 SE Resurreciton

Body here is the biggest issue. I can fix this engine easily enough if all it needs is some bearings, cleaning, light machining, and reassembly. It's ugly, but I really like the period correct idea. The owner blew a ton of cash on it, and I find it a cool 80's car culture time machine. Based on what...

Re: 1984 SE Resurreciton

I tried shipping the car via a freight carrier, that was a nightmare. I used the bank to get my deposit returned on my card, after 3 months of being jerked around by the shipper. On Valentine's Day weekend, a buddy and I drove his 1999 F350 with a broken 4x4 system and a beat up old flatbed with fen...

1984 SD4 Resurrection

I bought a car from eBay in November. It sold for $1575. I'm going to try to chronicle my "rebuild" of the car. The car an 1984 SE, it has 33000 miles on the ODO. I have most of the receipts and the original window sticker. An SD4, with what I believe the iron EGR head was built and instal...

Re: 87 Fastback L47 Chump Car/ Lemons Project.

My intent is to reduce flexing using 275 tires. I have bent a rear lower in a low speed collision. The front lowers are have a lot of metal in them, so adding weight just didn't seem appropriate. The front upper could be twisted easily in my hands. The boxing is purely, objectively for my peace of m...

I see your concern now.
And the mounting tabs really aren't rigid enough to have any real load preventing that condition.
