Re: LS4 build

Since all my effort towards this is theoretical and constant war gaming at the moment: More information about the LS4 GenIII vs GENIV block oddities: This is the LS6 Block (Definitely a GenIII) and a a 5.3 Gen III, all the aluminum blocks have this appearance behind the timing cover. The scaling isn't great, plus I cant be sure how to scale these drawings are.
But interference may be less than initial assumptions.

Re: LS4 build

I asked about the machining done on that LS4 video. LS4King commented that they have been able to open up the factory sleeves to 4.00". Curious, I emailed him asking for more information because that doesn't seem possible on my block, but I also have never seen a cross section of the LS4 block ...

Re: LS4 build

Thanks for the Aluminum block info! I'll try and weigh my bare cradle some time this next week and let you know for sure what it weighs. https://youtu.be/mSKNwvBI9rY?si=PFQlU90k43upeeHk People have bored a LS4 to 3.898" bores. In my opinion the Jury is out on weather the motor is suitable for ...

Re: LS4 build

The inner pivot for the forward lateral link on the driver's side is under the edge of the inner CV joint. In order to move up an inch, it has to move forward about half an inch to clear the CV joint. Of course the transmission is immediately inboard of the CV joint. The structure you show there ar...

Re: LS4 build

I have an entire 88 suspension currently. What I'm after is reduced weight, and altered geometry to correct for a lowered car, like raising the inner pivots. This cradle would end up at about 35lbs welded with 1.75" OD .125" wall primary steel tubing. without mounts. Making something out o...

Re: LS4 build

Hopefully my first tube cradle will be built this summer. Because I have been married now since this post for 2 years, my 9 to 5 is a 7:30 to 5, and I have to travel across the planet servicing and commissioning test stands on top of that, this wasn't built that summer. But I have since snuck some ...

Re: LS4 build

I have been doing some research on what the consensus is on the maximum bore of a the Aluminum 5.3. The best I can gather is results vary based on year of the block. Gen IV Aluminum RWD 5.3 Blocks have siamesed bores. These can be dry sleeved to large bores. Gen III Aluminum RWD 5.3 Blocks could may...

Re: Saab '03-'04 6 speed ratios & RPO

I remembered this could go in this thread as well: Also, I snagged a 3.91 F40 from a '03-'04 Saab late last year... it's been kicking around the back of my van in a tote for months and months. I finally verified the ratios and dropped it into "storage" next to my '09 Saab F40 with High Fe...

https://k1technologies.com/blog/what-is-sleeve-https://k1technologies.com/blog/what-is-sleeve-length. I have been giving this a lot of calculation and thought. The 2.5SD block was designed and released when Pontiac Only offered a 3.25" stroke crankshaft. It seems after the first run they switch...

Re: 1984 SD4 Resurrection

I was curious what the oil passage to crank journal clearance would be with the IRL 1.850" rod journal:
Around .302" worst case, but should be aided by the crank pin radius.

Re: 1984 SD4 Resurrection

A video of a damaged '801 head on came up on youtube. This head has a more shrouded/quench pad chamber, similar to the 437 head I saw on ebay earlier this year.

Re: 1984 SD4 Resurrection

I have Ebay alerts on for Ponstiac SD4 listings. Someone posted several SD4 parts up yesterday. I purchased the camshaft, looks like it fits the goals I have for power over 200, where as my current hydraulic flat tappet cam seems small for the '801 heads. (.522 lift) It is very close to the mechanic...

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1985-pontiac-fiero-18/ caught this GT2 Fiero racer on bring a trailer. Has a 2.7L SD4 with 801 head, converted to EFI with waste spark. Obvious roller cam, 1.55 rockers give that away, all the roller grinds I see are for 1.55 ratio rockers. Pretty interesting build,...

Re: 1984 SD4 Resurrection

Low supply as well demands a premium when items pop up from storages. Being it is such a limited demand, I'm sure he may end up sitting on that a while until the perfect buyer shows up. The 801 head is much harder to find I'm seeing than a 433 or 437 head as well. I would be more inclined to make th...

Re: 1984 SD4 Resurrection

There is a weber intake w/carbs on ebay s-l1600 (3).jpg List price is: $1700, more than I want to spend on carbs I wont use. Seller says the engine was 2.7L, and made 290HP with this intake on a dyno. I messaged to confirm it fits a 801 head, he said it was for the 801/ https://www.ebay.com/itm/1156...

Re: LS4 build

I have started acquiring some hardware for the build. Mostly new GM performance MLS head gaskets, GM LS7 oil pan gasket for my LS3 dry sump setup, a new LS2 chain damper, new LS7 MLS exhuast gaskets, LS7 manifolds from a wrecked C6, a knockoff LS3 valley cover from Amazon/China, and and a thermostat...
