If you do decide to use electronic control on the pump, be aware that where the sensor is placed will significantly affect how quickly it warms up when the engine starts. I suppose that's true, but it seems like you're talking a few mm. I suppose when you start getting to 18-20" wheels it might add up to an extra half inch or so, so worth mentioning and measuring if somebody has both to measure and compare.

I seem to recall mention of certain years having smaller exhaust ports on the heads, but it's possible that I'm getting my 96-99 and my 2000+ mixed up. If you had them both in front of you and didn't notice a difference in port size, I'm guessing they're the same size.
