Re: GRM 2010

If you see any other cheap turbo D stuff that you are taking a pass on (or selling) that you want to see go to a $2011 home, let me know. I'm looking at another oddball $2011 project powered by a D, hopefully turbo D.

Re: GRM 2010

Word has it that he didn't get a DNF this time, but the car didn't drive onto the trailer under its own power.

Re: COMPACT 90 degree mufflers

I think a turbo will be a more effective sound reducer. Sure, it will be a little more expensive, but obviously worth it. :-D

Re: My Grassroots Motorsports $2009 build

I think I figured out why the car seemed to fall on its face for the last 1/8th mile. The exhaust started making some rattling the other day, and subsequently sounded like somebody stuffed a potato up the exhaust pipe. I suspect the catalytic converter has self destructed...not surprising, since it ...

Re: Darkhorizon's GRM 2010 build!

That's what I was thinking Will. Don't forget the Civics! With about 1000 pounds less weight to move around, they put on a hell of a show! A turbo 3800 will put in good 1/4 mile times assuming the trans holds up, but that's a lot of car to be twisting around cones.

Re: Darkhorizon's GRM 2010 build!

Not much time to just be getting started now! I'm surprised you're sticking with the stock auto, as it's not known to be particularly reliable when you start throwing power at it. How competitive are you planning to be? As in, are you willing to ditch the bumpers, door bars, etc. and strip it to the...

Re: My Grassroots Motorsports $2009 build

60' - 1.853
330 - .000 (not measured, apparently)
1/8 - 8.848
MPH - 70.57
1000 - .000 (again, not measured)
1/4 - 14.666
MPH - 82.48

I told you, it just falls on its face in the second half. Keep in mind, the engine in back is bone stock. I'm pretty sure the fronts are hopping.

Re: My Grassroots Motorsports $2009 build

Well, still not much faster. 14.666 (@ 82.5 mph) is the new fast time for the car. I was fighting wheelhop, can't seem to get my 60' times below 1.8. Stickier tires plus nasty old dampers is making launches tough. The batteries are strong in the 1/8th mile, but still don't have enough current capaci...

Doug, are you watching this thread at all??? Since you haven't posted after your initial post, I'm wondering if I should email direct. http://seattle.craigslist.org/kit/cto/1820498799.html $1000 for a Formula 5 speed driver! If you get the sale price down a couple hundred more, you could easily sell...

Re: Bizarre Partial Manual Transmission Failure, Can I Save It?

That's why I said about 25% of the junkyard cables were junk, that's the only place we could find them. Unfortunately, while 25% of the cars had some usable cables, a VERY small percentage of the N-Bodies in the U-pull junkyards have manual transmissions. Fortunately, we were looking in Detroit yard...

Re: WTB: '88 V6 5-spd for $500 or less

Every Fiero lover on earth wants an '88 for $500. Yeah, but every Fiero owner isn't trying to get it for $500 specifically because of class rules, they're just plain cheap. Doug has plenty of experience racing Fieros, so he's trying to use his powers for good and hoping like minded Fiero owners (su...

Re: Bizarre Partial Manual Transmission Failure, Can I Save It?

We had a really hard time with cables on our Achieva SCX racer. They are really horrible quality cables, they bend much easier than the Fiero ones do. It's also a very common problem, we found, because not only did it happen to us, but only about 25% of the junkyard cars had cables that weren't junk...

http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/cto/1767500965.html $1200 for an '88 GT. Keep in mind that if you (hypothetically) buy an '88 GT for $900 and sell off $500 worth of stuff, you've got yourself a $400 car. Also keep in mind that LeMons doesn't give a crap about your actual budget anymore...they cal...

Re: WTB: '88 V6 5-spd for $500 or less

I'll keep my eyes peeled down here Doug. The deals are out there...my Grassroots $2009 car started as a $500 Formula and had a great body and interior. Of course, for LeMons/Chump, the body and interior don't matter. If you come across a smokin' deal on an earlier car and feel like swapping the crad...
