Yeah, he's quite proud.

Re: 40th anniversary Dyno results

Notice how social media and even Old Europe, noone is talking about the track day on the 1.5 mile course during the 40th. Why do you think that is? Cause it was lame. There were maybe about 10 Fieros/owners that were more track-oriented. The track had 5th-gen Toyota Supras as pace cars, which were ...

That car is intercooled, so surely the intention is to eventually run more boost pressure than that.

Re: 40th anniversary Dyno results

I didn't like that the Pickardt car won the award for highest horsepower, yet its horsepower is unknown, and we don't know who the runner-up is, nor its horsepower. In most sporting competitions, there is some sort of a scoreboard showing the results of all participants. There was a powerpoint prese...

Re: 40th anniversary Dyno results

I'll add that the Pickardt car won the highest horsepower award, which was presented on Sunday.

So presumably, all other cars made less horsepower than that.

Re: 40th anniversary Dyno results

For much of the day, it was raining, and as the mobile dyno was outdoors (traction problems with wet surfaces), no dyno tests were held until the weather cleared up at the end of the day (from about 16h00 to 17h30). I was watching these tests. The Northstar was done earlier in the day, before the ra...

Re: 40th Fiero Anniversary Celebration

I liked my visit to the Henry Ford museum because of all the machinery type stuff on display. I skipped over some sections that didn't interest me, such as the section about TV chef Julia Child. Harbor Freight is pretty awesome, though it looks like there's a mix of good and bad value. I found a use...

40th Fiero Anniversary Celebration

I arrived in Pontiac on Sunday night. I haven't been to the USA in a while; my first time in Michigan. I came with my friend Guy and his 1988 Fiero with an LZ4 engine swap. My Fiero is not currently roadworthy, as it is missing its front suspension. I don't like rushing things to meet a deadline. To...

Re: Lz9 rotating assembly weights

Sometimes, it's hard to directly measure to the centre of a hole. However, you can measure to the edge of a hole, and then (by measuring the hole's diameter) add the radius to come up with the dimension to the centre of the hole. Pretty much 99% of holes in technical drawings are dimensioned to thei...

I think I see the issue.

You need to measure the distances with respect to the center of the holes, not to the extremities of the rod.

Just like when you are using the measuring jig and balance, the rod is supported by the hole centers.

Re: Lz9 rotating assembly weights

The CG of the rod is above the razor blade, so it's a naturally unstable configuration that will want to tip over to one side. What weights did you measure by direct measurement? I'm not sure what the issue is, but static equilibrium equations are pretty legit. I'll review this tomorrow when I'm not...

Re: Lz9 rotating assembly weights

Is that something people do? No, not really. The swingarm jig for the scale is the standard way in automotive rebuilding/repair. In the OEM world, I'm guessing that the CG location given by the CAD software is close enough to reality. Is there a math formula for it? Yes, the math is straightforward...

Sandblasting Rubber

I just found out that sandblasting (actually, I'm using crushed glass media) works well for cleaning rubber.

This example is for the rubber bushings which hold the steering rack to the front crossmember. There were a lot of corrosion byproducts stuck onto the rubber.

Re: Lz9 rotating assembly weights

You can balance the stock rod on a razor blade to find the location of the centre of gravity.

Knowing the total weight (which you have), and the CG location, you can work out the big and small end weights.

To work this out, you need to weigh the big end of the connecting rod separately from the small end.

Usually we are used to seeing I or H beam connecting rods, so I thought the cruciform section was interesting.

I found this explanation on their website:

Re: Front spring selection for 84-87

The 84-87 bearings are also inadequate for modern performance but at 1/10 the price and 1000X the availability they are mostly tolerable. I like the serviceability of old-school tapered roller bearings. I have this style on the front of my daily driver 2WD truck; I love it! Since this is not meant ...

Re: Front spring selection for 84-87

What is your target spring rate? Ride height? Shocks may also come into play. The front springs from a 4th gen Camaro can be cut to fit but this will be quite stiff. A lowered ride height will require more to be cut off and increase the spring rate further. You will need either a performance shock ...

I suspect that I can get the car to where I'd like it to be, with the pre-88 architecture. That's why I'm messing with it.
