Re: wet sump engine oil control, a thread.
looks like the LZ9 tray is available new for $26+the ride. https://www.general.parts/products/Chevrolet/2010/Impala-LS-4DR/Engine-Oil-Sump-Windage-Tray/2668500/12585005.html That said, locally, every time I go to the junk yard there's at least 1 3500 or 3900 out of the car on the ground, if it's any...

Re: progress on the banshee...
I got some parts in from Crower, new lifter link bars, and the hardware to attach them to Crower lifters... The fortunate part, is that the link bars look like they will work, unfortunately, the hardware is very different. Crower attaches the link bars to the lifter via a small screw, I'm sure with ...

Re: wet sump engine oil control, a thread.
Yeah it does look like a little more thought went into that one. I noticed the holes are a lot bigger -- does it go under the main bearing cap bolts? in a purely stock form, the tray is attached to studs on the main cap bolts, the holes are bigger in the later tray because the nuts that hold the tr...

Re: Keys
To satisfy my own curiosity, I picked up a replacement ignition cylinder today, they're pretty cheap, then I took the "glove box" lock out of the firebird, because they're stupid easy to remove, and should match the door keys, I discovered that the ignition key from the new ignition switch...

Re: wet sump engine oil control, a thread.
while probably not a direct bolt in, it may be possible to fit a later style windage try in the engine, here are pictures of two of them. on the left, an LX9 windage tray, on the right, an LZx style windage tray. IMG_20240607_082309.jpg to me, the LZx tray resembles a more "race" style tra...

kinda silly question to go into "Tech", but here goes... I have too many GM Vehicles, 2 suburbans, a Fiero, a Firebird, the 2500 HD ect. it's beginning to become problematic, in the fact that I have way too many keys... the sensible answer, is to just get rid of a few vehicles and call it ...

Re: wet sump engine oil control, a thread.
Kevin responded in my other thread, he seemed to think the leading edge scraper isn't a bad idea, as long as it's able to direct oil to the pan, he mentioned some OEM's do that.

Re: really dude?
a few weeks ago, I took the car for a short test drive, on the return trip it seemed to just die, but almost like it flooded or something, I tried firing it a day later, and same story... so yesterday I pulled the plugs, they were all wet, and autolites (BLEH) I threw some AC delco plugs in, with a ...

Re: wet sump engine oil control, a thread.
In one of my earlier posts I mentioned wanting a crank scraper on the leading edge of the crank, and then worrying about oil piling up on the scraper and not draining, I started considering that the scraper could literally be acting like a pump in this scenario, and actively pushing oil into the su...

Security cameras/GPS trackers.
well, since my Motorcycle was stolen, I've been slowly researching cameras and GPS trackers, Air tags are a simple and cheap option, but have significant drawbacks, the biggest ones being that you kinda have to have an apple device for them to be useful, and they alert whoever has an apple device ne...

Re: wet sump engine oil control, a thread.
I just ordered a teflon crank scraper from Ishihara-Johnson . Kevin is also going to help me with some improvements to the windage tray, but I need to source a spare that he can do the work on. Kevin replied to my thread on speed talk, I think he thinks we're the same guy... Lol. I look forward to ...

Re: wet sump engine oil control, a thread.
Depends on what rods are being used. The steel scrapers I was getting weren't close enough to the stock rods to require any modification, but the teflon versions obviously were. are they close enough to the rods and crank to be effective? ideally, they need to be just short of touching, thats frequ...

Re: wet sump engine oil control, a thread.
it probably wouldn't be too terribly hard to install a crank scraper with the engine still in the car. it wouldn't be fun to trim it for a close fit, but not impossible.

I remember seeing Mike Finnegan (roadkill, hot rod garage, ect) swap gears for harder or softer gears in one of his cars for the reasons you describe. that's a very interesting tidbit about the BMW parts.

I still need to verify what would have the VIN on it still, I'm checking FB marketplace and Craigslist now. I'm betting it's getting parted.

Re: wet sump engine oil control, a thread.
bad-news.png Is this a 3.4 DOHC? it is, it would be great to see if/how much a crank scraper helps. I'm unfamilliar with the oil drains on a LQ1, anyone have pictures of how the heads drain to through the block? +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ one of the things I was considering, was to plug th...

well, looks like that might have been one if the last great rides on that bike.... some crackhead stole it, it was sighted a few miles from my house, but by the time the fuzz and I got there, it wasn't there anymore. I'm 99.99% sure the crackhead has it, but there's not much I can do now.

Re: wet sump engine oil control, a thread.
Please post up the results! I'll be very interested to hear them. It's worth mentioning that oil control applies to more than just the sump, I assume you have a PVC system of some kind? It's possible that the PCV is pulling oil from the valve covers, do you notice any knock retard or knock sensor ac...
