Broken ignition key

Post by Shaun41178(2) »

I have my car over at my buddies shop and they needed to move it. So one of hte guys tries to jam the ignition key into the door lock and well, now lets just say the ignition key is no longer usable. I thought I had a spare, but it must have fallen out of my wallet or I put it somewhere and now don't remember.

is it possible on such an old car to go to gm with the vin and they could give me a new ignition key? Or am I stuck with swapping columns?

88 formula.

GM doesn't have the info as of two years ago when I lost my keys.

I pulled the tumbler and took it to a locksmith along with the trunk tumbler. $60 later I had two new keys.

Can't you just buy a new ignition switch at any auto parts store?
Why would you eat bad ice cream?

I've got an extra column in my basement if you really need it...but it would probably be easier to bring yours to a good locksmith and ask him to make you a new key.

I had keys made for my 88 a few years ago.

Changing the tumbler is cake as well. takes less than 15 mins. Could probably gank one from a junkyard or something if you are crafty.
My fiero is cheaper than yours. The end.

no need to do anything. I guess a copy was able to be made even after it was broken and it worked. All is well. Thanks guys.
