Moar JDM

Post by CincinnatiFiero »

Been bringing in a few more cars here and there for friends, my dad decided he needed in on the JDM action. He wanted something different, something you don't see (Skyline is immediately out), had to be automatic, but still interesting, quick, etc.

Got him this:

Having a hell of a time making these pics work

1989 Toyota Soarer 2.0GT Twin Turbo. Has the 1G-GTE twin turbo 2.0L straight 6 in it. Underneath the car is essentially a long wheelbase Mk3 Supra, so brakes, suspension, transmission, HVAC, etc is all Supra stuff. The 1G-GTE was as far as I know Japan only since its a 19XXcc less than 2.0l tax bracket engine. But the trans is the same A340 you'd see in a USA car. 210HP is the stock rating, found an ARC intercooler for it, HKS intake, bolt in test pipe, and I'm currently looking for a used Mk3 supra cat-back to lengthen to fit. Lowered it 1.5" and put on some dad-friendly fitment SSR wheels. Plan is to rock it out for a while and enjoy it. A couple more psi of boost and an exhaust will finish it off.

It's different, thought you guys might appreciate.

Updated forum software isn't friendly to pics or URL's for some reason.

We're working on it, as always, at a glacial pace.

Looks like a clean snazzy ride. The quality of Japanese cars in the '80's and their durability over time is pretty impressive, especially considering the kind of crap the big 3 were churning out here in the US.

Good for him. Looks like fun. I did a quick google search, and it looks like they made one with a retractable roof section and rear glass, but this one looks like it's a solid roof. Clean lines. Very 80's. I like it. Reminds me of a sport version of the original LS cars by Toyota.

The interior has some clean lines to it. Does his have the digital dash? What did it cost all said in done (from there to your driveway) to buy?

It's so cool seeing cars you've never seen before.

Car does have the digital dash. Soarer Aerocabins (convertible) are super cool, but they only made like 500 cars, I have not seen one for sale in Japan. There was one for sale in the US for close to 10 times what I paid for this car in Japan.

Thanks, car hasn't changed much since this post but my dad did put over 10,000km on the car last fall, so he really seems to enjoy it.
