Looking for a 98 or newer 3800sc supercharger bracket

Post by Lou and Blue »

Hey guys, I'm looking to buy a 98 or newer 3800sc supercharger idler pulley bracket with pulleys on it. This is the one on the OPPOSITE side as the stock alternator and power steering pump.I have a 96 3800sc from a bonneville and the pulley bracket is aluminum and known to hit the fiero firewall during the swap install.
Please let me know if you have one for sale or trade.
Thank youz all!

Pro tip: The bracket you have is a Bonneville and Buick thing, not year specific. Every other application sports the cast iron bracket you're after. So I'd find a Pull-A-Part with a Grand Prix in it.

Thank you! Will my existing tensioner work on that? It looks like its missing a tensioner.

No, it won't. The tensioner that came with your engine is actually part of the aluminum bracket that you're replacing. If the tensioner goes out you have replace the entire bracket because the tensioner is attached to it permanently.

It just so happens that dude is selling the tensioner from the bracket you bought (if it was you that bought it).

I personally would buy a new bracket for my car, but if you're in a bind you can check the wreckers. Someone on piffle might have one lying around for $40.

New one's going to cost around $80 if you buy a Chinese part from Autozone - or whatever nation that they're importing from the orient these days. I have a pullapart locally, so an idler cost like $10. Mom and pop wreckers will want around $30, some might want more. Dealer will want about $100 for an American made part. Unfortunately the German's don't make that part. The part the guy on ebay is selling looks pretty thrashed. That idler does move a good bit whenever the supercharger loads up. Having a beat up idler might wear out the supercharger coupler early, but that costs about as much as idler.

I'd buy a new American part. But that's me. It will be expensive.

I haven't had that bolt in my hands in a long time. It's a long thru bolt if I remember correctly. It would be nice to have it shipped directly to you, but if you can't find it, I'd take the bracket to a junkyard and start unbolting tensioners from GM vehicles until I found one the right size and thread pitch that's long enough.

No problem. Your link is dead. Probably no longer exists since you bought the item.
