Autocross

Post by CincinnatiFiero »

We had our Mercedes Benz Club / OSU Student autocross last weekend. As usual it was a random mix of cars, I brought out the Euro 190E 2.0L. It did pretty well, the car only has 68k miles on it, but it has original shocks and it shows, I also threw on my 13.5lb forged wheels with 205s, up from 185s, but the 205s are 7 year old snow tires. Didn't want to tear up my fresh street tires, but the increased width and reduced unsprung weight was probably a total wash because of the ancient rubber. We had a couple of very experienced guys come out, and those who were willing to listen (myself included) learned a lot about picking better lines and really improved their times. Either way, had a lot of fun, thought you guys might enjoy some pics.

We've got another event on the 21st, I may run the 190E again, its not very fast but its a lot of fun, and I'm learning a lot more about driving in it. It is a very neutral car at the limit and is pretty tossable. I have a set of fresh 235s I got for free, but they will probably rub like hell and I just had the fenders painted.

Cool pics, I can't believe how the Alfa destroyed the rest of the field.

That fintail is great!

As for the Alfa, Neils is the most experienced and best driver out there, he drove everyone else's cars 2 seconds faster than their PBs. That car from the factory is a hot car 2000cc, factory LSD, 1:1 5th gear etc. He was also on race rubber. But he blew the headgasket and the night before autocross we finished the headgasket job, drove it to the bar, retorqued the head at the bar and proceeded to drink all of the rum and cokes. It was a good weekend.

That's the way it's done.
