Yes there is and that's what I'm thinking. Just not sure if I trust a Fiat diesel, and it's slow with a side of slow. 8 seconds to 60, 16.1 through the 1/4. I could handle that I guess, but I'm hoping it has aftermarket tuning so I can boost the power numbers a bit. Stock is 240hp/420tq, and it weighs like 5500.

8 seconds to 60 for a large SUV, is respectable IMO. Thats probably as fast as your E34. I've also seen the 2014 Diesel with numbers more like 7.7. Thats actually a little quicker than the Gas V6 which seems to be consistently 8 seconds. The small V8 is only like 6.9-7 to 60. If you're expecting SRT8 performance out of a non performance intended SUV, you will certainly be disappointed. 420ft/lbs and 0-60 in 8 seconds would never feel strained in modern traffic, enjoy the highway mpgs, and build something else for track days.

There are DPF-back exhausts on the market already, and intakes available.

Entirely different motor, but decent gains were available for the Mercedes 3.0L V6. The VM 3.0L isn't all that dis-similar from the Mercedes motor, so I'm sure if/when software comes out, you can pick up a chunk of power and some mpgs.

FWIW, VM Motori has been around for a while... There was a conversion for AMC Eagles using a VM Motori 6 cylinder back in the '80's. I think they're like the Detroit Diesel of Europe.

Is that the same engine as in the new diesel 1/2 ton Rams?
