Will, Just noticed the R07 also uses an 8 bolt flywheel, pattern is probably different and probably uses way bigger bolts than a N* though.

So what is the R07 block? Is it Ford or Chevy? Totally custom?

I think hes referring to the thread Will linked where the OP says Ford a few times. The Ford motor is the FR9 I thought, or thats the older nascar motor from Ford.

GM, Ford and Toyota all build engines for the NASCAR spec. I *thought* the NASCAR spec was "R07", so everyone's engine was an R07, but I could be wrong about that. Prior to the R07, GM's engine was an SB2 and SB2.2.
There was a Toyota NASCAR engine at the Washington Auto Show last year... weird seeing the Toyota symbol on the valve covers and the old skool Chevy bellhousing pattern on the back.

Basically, an R07 makes ~750 HP with a flat tappet cam, single carb through restrictor plates and turns 9500 RPM. With a sheet metal EFI intake or throttle per cylinder and a roller cam, I don't see why one couldn't make 900 HP naturally aspirated... from just over 350 cubic inches.

The bore center is 4.500 inches, so nothing from a conventional Chevy or LS bolts up. The mains are EARLY Chevy small diameter at 2.300 and the rod journals are Honda size at 1.818 or so. From what that thread said, they run 4.125ish bore and 3.25ish stroke.

Interesting. I guess I'll have to spend some quality time with Google to figure out what the bolt circle and ring gear tooth count is.

the R07 is GM specific. there was also an R99 and R00 IIRC, but they were still-borns. if you google toyota nascar engine, you'll see that at least the heads are different. I lost the bid on the set I was eyeing up, maybe next time...

ok. I guess I need to look up what the name of the NASCAR spec those engines conform to is. Toyota's method of conforming to that specification will naturally be different than GM's method.

button flywheel, 3 days left, bid @ $29.99

cheap enough for a test piece in my book.

That's a standard off the shelf part available with a variety of center bolt patterns. Quarter Master will drill you out a blank one of those for not much more than a standard one.

Needs the ring gear to be something interesting. Here's one that's just like the one in the pic you posted before, sold for $34 (they are $650 new from Summit):

I guess that answers the question about the tooth count too.
