Busting a nut... Dealing with security lugnuts

Post by Blue Shift »

Ok, so I lost the !@#$^& key to my locking lugs on my GT. Problem is the bores on my wheels are tight enough that even the ~$50 thinwall reverse helical flute extractor socket that's made to do this won't fit:

So I ended up getting a cheap (~$10) HF reverse thread extractor socket, and machining it down where it increases in diameter. Toolbit was not happy:

Set, malletize firmly, yet conservatively with BFH:

Remove. Repeat malletize if it doesn't bite:

Just a FYI if you lose your key.

I've used air chizzles to remove lock nuts. Take the sharp chizzle and make a cut and then use a blunt chizzle to spin the nut off at an angle. Works like a charm. Only problem is you destroy the nut.

Thats not a bad idea. I didn't have the gun though. At this point, I could care less about retaining the lock, anyways!

So is living in the ghetto... only that I didn't move into the ghetto... the ghetto moved in around me.

I wouldn't put it past some of the pieces of shit I've witnessed around here to steal 90's basic rims just to piss me off.

I had this problem last year. Luckily, I knew mine came from Checker or Auto Zone, so I bought another set. But those look like Gorilla or something. -Atilla
