Spending tax refund
I'm getting a used LS1 wiring harness from a Z28. $250. And a PlayStation3 so I can play GranTourismo5:Prologue. What's everyone else getting?

Re: Spending tax refund
If TMO/finance would ever pay me for my DITY (which I turned the paperwork in 2 months ago), not only would I have the $2500+ they owe me, but I would also be able to file my taxes.

Re: Spending tax refund
My net income was like $1200, I'll be sure to spend that $100 bucks or whatever I get back very carefully, LOL. I choose not to work during school, and over the summer I work at a bar. Yay, for being a cheap, broke, college person, lol.

Anyone know where I can get bull bars for a 1985 Bronco II?

Is that all from mortgage and student loan interest deductions? Or do you just like letting Uncle Sam hold your money for you?p8ntman442 wrote: that should dry up all 15k

7500 first time home buyer tax credit (this gets paid back as $500 increments interest free for 15 years, sooner if you sell the house) Smart people like me put it back into the house to increase the value/equity.The Dark Side of Will wrote:Is that all from mortgage and student loan interest deductions? The rest was unexpected. I calimed SIX (6), and expected to pay a few hundred/break even/ or get a few hundred back. that was based on a worksheet I did to increase my weekly pay $100 and therefore offset the change from rental cost to mortgage cost monthly.
I didnt realize how big a tax break you get for being married. basically I was taxed in a higher bracket than my taxable income level should be after I filed married.
I do not like uncle sam in my pockets.
Of the 10k in student loan interest I pay, $2500 is tax deductable MAX!!!!
All the mortgage interest is deductable, and so is town taxes.
However when I bought I did 100% financing and increased the loan value (still below apraised value) to cover the closing costs. BAD IDEA. the closing cost all would have been deductable had I paid them out of pocket and used the money back to pay for the repairs to the house that I paid for out of pocket instead. One little mistake cost me a couple grand. Lesson Learned. Get a real good real estate agent with lots of experiance.

Re: Spending tax refund
Interesting. How'd you get 100% financing? Only way I know of to do that (in Virginia) is with a VA loan.p8ntman442 wrote:However when I bought I did 100% financing and increased the loan value (still below apraised value) to cover the closing costs. I wasn't going to roll closing costs into my principal, but I do have to roll in the VA loan origination fee ($4K).
Easy to lose money with mistakes. Harder to make it just by doing everything right. That must have something to do with every last agency and his brother wanting to get their grubby mits in our pockets.

Interesting. The USDA "rural area map" was down, but I'll keep tabs on it. I'm probably not in a "rural area", but if they go county-by-county instead of town-by-town, I just might be.

I dont think you have to be in a rural area. The name is smoke and mirrors. The Dark Side of Will wrote:Interesting. The USDA "rural area map" was down, but I'll keep tabs on it. I'm probably not in a "rural area", but if they go county-by-county instead of town-by-town, I just might be.
P.S. Company meeting today layoffs were annouced as a 2week future item affecting 4-5 people.
I'm waiting on contractor prices now, but may not get to spend this on anything but Mortgage.

I try to work things out so I don't get a tax refund. The money you get from your tax refund is your money... money that you loaned to the federal gov't for free.

Ditto. If you get no refund, that means you paid your taxes right. It just means that you have to go without when everyone else is getting money out of the blue.TheFieroBoy wrote:I try to work things out so I don't get a tax refund. That gets harder when you have a lot of deductible expenses like interest on a mortgage or student loans, however. You have to do some figuring on your tax liability ahead of time to know how many deductions to put on your W4, etc.
