HELP: Splitting the 282 case

Post by Aaron »

I need to take the bell housing off on my blowed up transmission. I got all of the bolts, and most of the exterior things off, but I can't get them to split completely apart. I got the bell housing split from the box about 1/4-3/8", but it doesn't feel like it wants to break completely free. What am I missing? Or do I just need to pry it apart?

Remove the big round black cap in the bell housing that covers the shift interlock. Remove the the shift interlock assembly, be cafeful there are spring loaded ball in it. Once the interlock is off, you will see one of the shift rails has a bushing around it. Pry the bushing out and the case should come apart.

Thanks a lot!

I hope Matt doesn't need the plastic cap, it's got a big hole in it now. I'll send it anyways. I got the interlock off, but can't seem to locate that bushing. I'll go look again.

If you haven't gotten it apart yet, I will take a picture of what you need to do with the bushing tonight and post it. I don't need any of the parts, just the bell housing. Thanks.
