Prepping for a swap
As I understood the ultimatum, it was show more pics of cars or this would become a table forum.
And we're strokin' in this misadventure, no d-maxes in my good ideas. It's like I tied 3 threads together.
This idea hit me, it seemed so obvious so we went to the local coin wash and cleaned her up. I don't have a hose in my warehouse so this is how I'll be doing it from here on out. $2 in quarters is all she needed.

Izzat a Rabbit?
If that were a Rabbit truck you could go for a twin cam TDi with Audi TT or R32 drivetrain and have a diesel 4WD pickup.
Otherwise, do a 20V FSi + AWD.

It is true, a vw comes with lowering springs, vw meet stickers, and a coupon for a free piercing.
I've got a 1990 jetta gl, 1990 jetta gl, 1986 jetta, and a 1988 rabbit cabriolet.
This car is a 1990 gas getting a 1.6 diesel swap from the rusty '90 gl diesel I bought and the taller ratio gas transmission for some killer mpgs
1990 diesel and 1986 are parts cars. Rabbit is getting a new top and I am giving it to my gf as a weekend toy or I'll sell it.
Mk2s aren't that cool I wouldn't put an expensive powertrain in one. A friend and I are going to make biodiesel from a vegetable oil base but there are still some of the risks of straigt wvo so i don't want to risk my Mercedes. The plan is 45mg on $1/gallon fuel.

I've been driving an '06 a4 2.0t for the past 10 months, got probably 10k miles on it. Phenominal mpg, not all that fast and the carbon problem is obvious. So I am still on the fence.

No way you're getting a Power Stroke into that little red car. Bad enough trying to get an older GM 6.2 diesel into a third gen Camaro. We're doing a thread on this over at TGO.

Tow rig is A stroker f250, the red jetta is getting a 1.6 diesel out of another jetta. I wouldn't waste a powerstroke on a jetta, Id do a powerstroke swap on the red f250 if I found a free stroker lol.

What, that little thing? Cummins has a new 78.0L V-18 diesel making a barely adequate 3,500 HP at 1,900 rpm, with a more hope-inspiring 10,157 ft-lbs at 1,500 rpm. It only requires 76 gallons of oil at each change interval. Your car might be advised to avoid mild breezes, since this featherweight tips the scales at a scant 24,912 pounds. And it doesn't need much of a radiator, either, since the coolant requirement is rated to be 59 gallons. You'll be limited to a payload capacity of 400 tons, but it's a small price to pay. Your bragging rights come from the fact that all 6 turbos feature water-cooled bearing housings. Sadly, external dimensions were not available from my source. But it does arrive all fire-engine-red in color, and unlike cat, they don't paint the black rubber hises, so there's some good contrast.
Methinks Cincy has been reading too much eurotuner magazine. Seems they did a Jetta up with a TDI to get 170 hp and 300 ft-lbs, with a lame 46 mpg. My mom's gasoline-powered '97 Escort has done 46 mpg. Diesel is supposed to get more mpg than gas engines, isn't it? FAIL!!!!

I had an '06 Jetta TDI with DSG getting an average of about 53mpg with a max of 56 for about 6 months, I did a lot of highway I was running titles for a car dealership. My friend has an '04 previous bodystyle jetta wagon and his lifetime average is 52.Atilla the Fun wrote: Methinks Cincy has been reading too much eurotuner magazine. Bear in mind as well the Jetta will eat the escort for lunch, so double the horsepower and three times the torque and the same MPG. Turbo the Escort to get it up to 300lb/ft and you'll never get 46mpg again. Difficult comparison to make. The new Jetta also significantly outweighs the old escort, has full leather interior, heated seats, premium sound, multiple air bags, etc.
Googling around puts the Jetta 0-60 around 8.4 and the Escort around 10.9. 2.5 is a pretty big margin.

All true, but people who buy Escorts for MPG don't care about HP. They want to be able to get gas at any station in the U.S., cheap initial purchase price, and other granny-type concerns. Now, that lifetime average of 52, that'd interest a lot of people, from gearheads to grannys, if only it was common knowledge. But I've never seen any TV commercial telling people that a turbodiesel jetta can average 52 mpg. grannys don't read the car mags, or visit any online forums, but they do watch TV.

He uses it as a primarily highway commuter he works for the state and spends his time on 4 hours drives from one end of the state to the other. He has a BMW and F250 as a city vehicle. I'd imagine the MPG would come down substantially on a pure city tank. He could also be full of shit. But we were seeing 50-56 out of the heavier 05+ 1.9L cars so its plausible.
You say that people don't care about HP just MPG, which may be true of you and I because I agree with you. I have a non turbo jetta diesel and VW had a hell of a time selling them because of a lack of power the turbos sold much better. Mercedes tried to sell a 2.2L non turbo W201 diesel they had to put a turbo 2.5 5cyl in it to get people to buy it. In europe VW, Mercedes, Audi, BMW all sell lethargic 90HP diesels that get better mpg than the US Turbo counterparts but americans won't buy them because they think they are too slow. I'd love an E220 CDI estate but Mercedes won't sell it to me over here.

AFAIK that 78L motor is roughly the size of an S10, I don't know how you'd fit it in anything but a train.

beautiful, isn't it? I think You'd need to put your VW body on a big rig Peterbilt chassis, then put the Cummins on the trailer, but it should then be streetable. And those axles are also strong enough that you could use use a few of the lower gears, down toward 3:1
