Batteries

Post by Series8217 »

I haven't driven my Fiero for a few months and the battery is now dead (it won't take a charge). Time for a new one. Any recommendations?

It seems like the price on Optimas has sky-rocketed since I last went battery shopping (4 years ago), but I would still prefer to have a sealed battery of some sort since mine is in the front compartment.

I don't have a lot of electronics running in the car, so I'm not opposed to getting something smaller than the original Fiero battery. My battery is up front and I don't really have a permanent mount so I can make something to fit whatever battery I get.

Carquest has a sealed gell type battery. CARQUEST NGT Extreme AGM Batteries . I was considering one when I bought my Optima, only went with the Optima because it was on sale for half price.

Think the carquest one was around 150 Canadian dollars.

I was looking at my buddies honda. I think its an 03 and totally stock. His battery is smaller than mine, I would say its about 2/3rd the size of my battery, so I am sure it weighs less too. Should have the CCA needed too I would think
FieroPhrek working on that ls4 swap for 18 years and counting now. 18 years!!!!! LOL

I ended up getting a WestCo Miata battery. It's a very small, lightweight (25lbs) AGM battery. I got it for $124 shipped from here:

This little bugger has good specs for its size. 475 CCA, 31AH capacity. It's 7.5"x5"x7" and uses standard top post terminals.

I'm working out a battery tray right now so I don't have to keep using the wooden board and angle iron I had before.. I'll take pics when it's mounted.

Better late than never. Here's a pic of the tray and battery installed:

I don't know what happened to my CAD files for the battery tray.

I don't have any pics right now but don't want to clog up your thread but I got a oddysey PC 680 battery. Its 220 cca and weighs 15 lbs. You can find them for about 100 bucks shipped or so. I went this route because I can mount the battery on its side and plus I wanted to shed as much weight as I could from my hooptie

I found it at either PepBoys or O'Reilly.

Here's a similar one:
