Non-Fiero 4t45E /4t60E question

Post by p8ntman442 »

Hi,

Been a while.

New daily driver is a 90 GA SE, with a QUAD-4 and 125-C it shifts smooth and drives nice, but found some teeth in the transmission pan.

I want to replace the transmission, and figure a 4-spd auto is a good upgrade. I've been driving a Quad442 for the last three years, No need to swap to a manual trans in this car, I've had enough shifting in my commute.

My problem is the 4t60 never came mounted to a quad4 bellhousing. So I have to use a 4t60E or something else like the 4t45E. I will make my descision based on gear ratios likely.

The 4t60e came on 94 OBD1 grand ams, so I can simply swap ecu's/repin and run with it to control the transmission.

Are there other alternatives to controlling these things that dont cost $700? Is Ryan still making controlers? I emailed him, got no response.

you could always find another 125c. Sure its sucky and prob not what you want based on thread title, but they are cheap as dirt. I am guessing dimensions between a 45E and a 125c are different? Like axle lengths and such?

The TH125's were available with taller chain ratios for use with the larger V6's, so that setup could be built in a Q4 case... but then you're expending effort building a transmission that sucks to make it suck slightly less so that you don't have to expend effort to install it.

Better just to apply the effort to the adaptation.

It sounds like you decided you can use a stock PCM for it... Are you asking about alternatives just to see what's out there?

It has been a while. Welcome back! :-D

I had a long reply and lost it.

I want 4 speeds. and will hand pick gears to go in whatever I use.

I have a line on a 125C NOS for cheap.

a complete ECM re-pinning while not hard is time consuming and I'm looking for ways around that if its possible.

No. At least I don't think so. I am basing this on the contact number and the contact address of the link you posted. Last I knew he was in central florida.
