I needed to get away from the garage build and clear my head a bit.
First step is making a chuck bushing to clamp thin parts:
Then I got some sintered iron/bronze and made a couple pieces:

The sintered pieces go between the case and the side gears.
Then I got one of these spring inserts. They’re going for around $20-$30 on ebay and claim to be intended for honda/bmw/whatever.
My Benchmaster claims they fit Fiero/TH125c:

So far, so good.
With the strap wrench on the output shaft, it takes a pretty good push to spin the spiders
The diff is kind of a pain to get to, so I wanted to be sure. I tracked down a set of mold & die springs and replaced what the insert came with. Now the strap wrench doesn’t have enough bite to move the spiders at all.
We’ll see how it works out in practice. I’m pretty optimistic though.

I look forward to hearing about your results.

Re: Positively Maybe
So now you can hook up with both tires and blow your intermediate band on a WOT 1-2 upshift?
Sorry not sorry... you're running a TH125.
Is that a surface grinder you've repurposed as a horizontal machining center?
Those friction devices help prevent one wheel wonder burnouts... just keep in mind it's not actually a limited-slip device.

Thanks!
It'll be a little while until I can get it installed. Going to try and trench for utilities this week.

It's always been a horizontal mill. However, the current motor is repurposed from a treadmill and the DRO is a repurposed phone mixed with arduino magic. The Dark Side of Will wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 8:25 pm Is that a surface grinder you've repurposed as a horizontal machining center?
I figure it's worth a shot since I'm already going through the extra th125. I don't have traction problems now, but the turbo doesn't really come up until I'm almost at the 60' mark. I expect that to change when I get the new converter in. And I didn't want to put a new converter in an old transaxle, so here we are. I'll do a build thread when it's a little further along. The Dark Side of Will wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 8:25 pm Those friction devices help prevent one wheel wonder burnouts... just keep in mind it's not actually a limited-slip device.
