A few BMW 335's I play with

Post by Aaron »

I've gotten pretty good with the BMW E9X cars, and these were the last 2 I did. I bought both with blown engines. Replaced both engines and rebuilt the replacement engines myself since both were high mileage (160k and 211k). Rod bearings, rings, every gasket, etc.

The black car had downpipes and an E85 tune, and it is making around 440 at the wheels. The white car also got a minor turbo upgrade and intakes, and it is making about 530 at the wheels. These cars are stupid with AWD and 6AT's. Launching them at 19psi is just insane for a cheap 4 door sedan that'll still do over 30mpg. The white car pulled a 1.77 sixty foot, and a 7.62 at 92.90 in the 1/8mi.

Nice.

The new crop of turbo bimmers is impressive. The 21, 22 models are nuts.

That's pretty awesome that you're rebuilding those. Going to start offering that as a service?

I guess the engine and trans come out the bottom together with an engine compartment view like that.

The front clip unbolts and everything comes out the front of the car.

My E34 did that too... But didn't know if the rear-sump bodies were different.

Like Steven said, right out the front. It's actually stupid easy, 10-12 little screws for the bumper cover, 8 nuts for the bumper, and once you disconnect all of the hoses the entire front clip with radiators/intercooler pulls right off and you've got full access to the engine. The AWD ones suck, axles go through the oil pan, but I'm used to it, just have to drop the hub/suspension from the passenger side.

I'm not going to rebuild them for people. The crowd is just too poor and ghetto, and won't pay for quality. The e9x crowd pretty much defined the term clapped. I prefer to buy a nice, well taken care of car that lost an engine, rebuild it, then sell the car. I find plenty of buyers willing to pay for that since the cars are perfect when I'm done.
