Wheel spacers, how well they will hold under high power???

Real tech discussion on design, fabrication, testing, development of custom or adapted parts for Pontiac Fieros. Not questions about the power a CAI will give.

Wheel spacers, how well they will hold under high power???

Post by DreX »

I saw this on ebay => http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/5x114-3- ... dZViewItem

Its not the crapy wheel spacer from advance/autozone used to sell. These are billet and concentric. :salute:

But the question, how well they will hold under some serious hp/tq? :scratch:

Looks like they will hold up well, but you would need wheels with a big offset to keep them under the car. Might also put some extra stress on the wheel bearings.

without enough backspacing to compensate then yes increased stress on wheel bearings

Why do you want to use them?

Re: Wheelbearings... pushing the contact patches outward increases wheel bearing load for static, straight line, and braking, but REDUCES bearing load in cornering.

Inexpensive way to use another wheel bolt pattern.

I have not find a set of wheels that I like in 5x100. 5x114.3 have more selection.

Why? Isn't cornering the same to the wheelbearing as straight line except twice as much load on a single bearing (assuming outer wheel doing all the work)?

Cornering load is a vector sum of lateral g and vertical g.

For 1 g continuous in a corner, minimum wheel bearing load would be with negative backspacing...
