Power to weight ratios.

Post by stimpy »

What would the accurate way of calculating power to weight ratios? Is it with crank HP/dry weight or full tank and driver /WHP?

Anyone have a reference of power to weight ratios of high performance cars?

crank hp is how I always understood it

Divide the weight of the car as it is in race trim by the hp at the crank.

Doesn't really matter what you do as long as you do it the same for every car...

If you're bench racing and comparing your car to a Carerra GT, use curb weight. If you're actually looking at a car you might race, use race weight (curb weight completely empty with spare, etc removed & light fuel load + weight of driver).

Can use crank HP or wheel HP as long as you do it the same with all the cars you're comparing.
