Pulsating pedal / warped rotor

Post by whipped »

Not specific to fiero but...

My other car was missing a bolt on the caliper bracket, causing the bracket to bend around, presumably causing a warped rotor, or at least an uneven braking surface causing a pedal pulsation...

What are the chances after installing new brake pads and that missing bolt, that it would eventually wear itself flat?

Slip to none. Once warped, it should be turned or preferably replaced.

what if it's not warped, but like 1/2 of it is thicker than the other 1/2?

How expensive are your rotors that its that big a deal just to replace it?

I had warped rotors for a while, they never corrected themselves, just caused new pads to wear poorly.

They're cheap, but a PITA to replace

Sounds like my wife's old Civic. The rotors were held on with philips screws that were unmovable by me. We ended up having a shop take them off and true them up.

I suggest you do the same. Brakes are not the place to screw around!

with the new minimum thickness allowances on rotors if you have any warpage or uneven wear that you feel or notice it's highly unlikely you can have them turned enough.
