I totally understand the volume, but still I was still wowed by a $3,500 "chip" considering that's not dyno tuning, not personalized, just zapping it onto the chip. I do understand to cover their time and investment it has to be expensive to make a profit because of the lack of people wanting 600hp+ bentleys. But damn

I still can't get over those Lambos... 1500 to the ground, AWD and weight in the low-mid 3,000's.
The more I think about it, the crazier it sounds...
4 digit power in a Vette has been done, but is crutched by traction.
4 digit power and AWD has been done, but in 5,000 lb trucks with the aero of a small house.
High power, light weight and AWD have been put together in STi's and Evos, but they kill transmissions faster than V8Archie cars with 30# flywheels.
What do you build to go up against something like that?
The Ex Vi Termini Skyline was "only" 1300 HP...
A turbo McLaren wouldn't get traction below 120 mph...
I can't think of anything else that has that combo of engine, driveline, chassis, weight and sex-on-wheels poon appeal. Holy cow. My eyes have been opened.

But whats to say it couldn't? Low range on a lambo... for hauling out those Ferraris when they get all italian and catch fire.
On the topic of Lambos though, 4 drove past at work the other night and 2 R8s went by and my friend and I got to talking. The Diablos were so italian and temperamental, and the 355/360/430/probably458 are very italian and finicky, but the Gallardo/R8 is underneath is very German, very stout, and very reliable. I personally prefer the Ferrari counterparts but the Gallaro is probably the better car. The R8 is a really good supercar, the Lambo is the same car just slightly more complex with the V10, but VW admitted the 2.5L inline 5 actually shares the head casting with the gallardo so I'll bet a lot of German goodness has made its way into the Lambo engine. I've driven several S6s with the Lambo derived V10 and they all ran out very well, we have one customer with 100k on his and it still runs like a scalded dog. So yeah, let's all get Gallardos. I'll take a spider though with a real 6speed.

That's exactly what I've read about both the Murcielago and the Gallardo; they benefitted extensively from German influence.
Interesting tidbit about the 2.5 I5 vs the V10, but certainly makes sense.
Does that mean the 2.5 can be pushed beyond 750 HP?

The highest hp 2.5l vw is 395whp/325wftlbs on 22psi and pump gas. 034 motorsports standalone and a gt35r.

I've heard that since the 360, the new Ferraris have gotten a lot better at being livable. I don't know if they still have 5 digit bills for timing belt replacements, though. The German solution to that problem is very simple: USE A CHAIN. I think Audi went from a belt to a chain on their V8's when they V8'd the S4. VAG builds some decent engines, from what I understand, but srsly... hanging a V10 in front of the front axle? Who was smoking what to come up with that idea? The RS6 needs another 3" per side of front fender flare and 335's in front to deal with that... it can keep the 275's in back, though.

I got a banzai run ride in a B7 RS4 on a track over the weekend, the weight up front is obvious, they push hard. My girlfriend has a B7 2.0T and even that motor feels like its too far forward. I have never driven the V10 RS6 hard but I can only imagine.

Not that the 6000 is *ANYTHING* like the RS4... but going from 195/60-14's at all four corners to 245/50-16's up front and 205/60-16's on the rear essentially eliminated the understeer inherent in a car with 60/40 weight distribution. I also went from stock 85 ppi springs in front to 110 ppi springs from a minivan and installed Koni struts for a Fiero. Obviously the dramatic increase in overall footprint and improvement in tire technology radically increased overall grip as well. And cost 2 mpg.

The Pontiac Grand Prix GXP with the LS4 v8 in it runs 255's in the front and 225's in the rear to help with understeer. But yet the Impala SS wit the LS4, which is damn near the same car underneath runs 235's all the way aroundThe Dark Side of Will wrote:

Can't argue with the handling improvement of wider fronts on a nose heavy car. It took a little time to get used to, but now I think it looks like a "bulldog stance".
