I believe it.

It's warmed up after 2-3 minutes on the highway, which is 2-3 minutes after it's been started in the parking spot and driving the half mile through the couple stopsigns going toward the highway.
I could be wrong still, as I haven't actually timed it, and the gauge has only been working since last night. I think that's about accurate, though.

True about the oil, didn't take that into consideration.

As a comparison, my Talon regularly gets 29ish mpg on long trips, and has touched 31 once, and 30 2-3 times. On this same trip to work that I was driving for a few months before it broke, I was averaging about 25 when I drove it like it was a gutless Fiero (not much boost).
I just can't see long trips giving me better than 22mpg right now, and the few trips to Fresno helped solidify that assertion.
It still has problems, though.

Holy crap, I just realized that I'm becoming a real Fiero owner.

Somebody save me!

The wifey's L36 swap (3800 Series II n/a for those of you from OE) avg's about 35 mpg on the HWY with a 4T60-E running a 3.06 overall final drive. She has bested about 37mpg. When I had this same engine in my Fiero using a 4T60-E w/ 3.33 fdr, I got a best of 33 mpg.

Granted although it is an iron-slug of an engine; it isn't a bad performer and is more reliable than a 3400... (there has been a rash of 3400's coming into local repair shops lately with blown head gaskets; that's what you get from mexican made engines I guess).

Headgaskets huh, that sucks. Any stronger head gaskets available for these? Several people I've read about running anywhere from 6 to 10psi on stock 3400's don't have any problems with HG's, though. They'd be the first ones to have problems, I'd think.

What's the 5th gear and final drive ratio of the Getrag?

Yowch. Any available (do-able without custom work) options for a taller 5th?

SappySE107 wrote:3100 modded got over 40 mpg in a cutlass. This is why im planning on building up a 3400 to swap into either the fiero or the grand prix.

modded means headers, regrind cam, high compression, no porting, modded but not really tuned chip. The tuning was lean, the FDR was 3.33.
Dammit, you're making me rethink my desire for 3500 in the Goose (6000 AWD). How much power have people gotten out of turbocharged but otherwise stock 3100's?

Hehe... 3100 has same bore as the engine you already have, but more displacement. 3100's are about 160 HP, which is 30 (or maybe 40 or 50) more than you have now.

And 3400 has bigger bore than that, and about 175-185hp, which is 45 or 55 or 65 more hp than I have now... for the same exact install.

Only difference is gas mileage, and I think the 3400 would be very close to the 3100 in those terms, not enough difference to make up for the HP loss IMO.

And a 3500 has 200 HP and 215 TQ, 3900 has 250 of each.

And without the same exact install, and being MUCH harder to find, as well as more expensive. 3400 is almost a direct drop in with the right 2 .8 parts.
