Ding a ding dang my dang a long ling long
I went to watch the drags last Sunday. This was the real deal – NHRA Nationals. Top Fuel Dragsters, Nitro burning funny cars, Pro Stocks, etc. These were the big boys. They had been in town since Friday and the finals were on Sunday.
It was amazing. If you’ve never been, you must go at least once. There is absolutely nothing like it. Imagine a car with SEVEN THOUSAND HORSEPOWER. It’s incomprehensible.
They accelerate faster than anything you have ever seen. 0 – 325 mph in 4.5 seconds. They come out of the hole so quick that if you’re sitting at the far end of the track, you can see the cars jump about a car length before the noise hits you. The noise is deafening; ear plugs are a necessity. The whole world shakes when they go by. It literally blurs your vision. I am not joking. And nitro methane smells gooood… It was definitely an experience for 4 out of your 5 senses.
Next year I’m going to the Friday night rounds so I can see 10 foot flames coming out of the pipes.
If you get a chance, go. Even if you don’t think you’re a drag fan, go. It’s worth every penny of the $45 ticket.

Awesome.
I have been to the Gator Nationals and also Night under fire up at Norwalk in Ohio.
I know exactly what you are talking about. I do suggest at least hang down by the starting line for a bit when the top fuel guys are running. You will feel the air being sucked out of your lungs when they launch. Its an awesome feeling.
Night under fire is sweet. You can see bits and peices of the engine being shot out of the exh when its dark out. Seeing those cars go in the dark I think is better then in the daytime.

Go to a military airshow at night.
See an F-14 go almost vertical in a full burner climb 200 feet off the deck. The ground shakes. The flames from the afterburners are like cutting torch flames dozens of feet long.
I saw the title, saw your name Doug, and thought instantly, "Great, here he is making fun of me for wanted the chiming dingy thingie...lol"
I've never been, but I think I may make it a point now to go. And Bandimere is only about an hour away (NHRA track).
