Performance Driving Clinic at Buttonwillow- 23 August 2008

Post by Unsafe At Any Speed »

Are any of you guys planning on attending this? For only $225 I think it sounds like a great deal for an all day event. I meant to make the one in March but didn't have a car yet.

Hmm, I may be in the area at that time, I'll have to look into it. I love going to performance driving schools.

I have no track time whatsoever let alone instruction, so I definatly think it would be a good experience. Would you be taking your Fiero or something else? Any of you other CA guys interested?

Unless I stumble across a pot of gold in the mean time, I'd be bringing the Fiero. This is right around the time I'll be moving to LA though, so I don't know for sure if I'll be able to go yet. That is a damn good price, though.

Okay, here are some of the pits and staging. Most of the actual on track pictures I have are of my car. There was a good mix of cars at the event. Quite a few Porches. Off the top of my head here are some of the cars I can remember being there: 2 STis, EVO 8/9?, Lambo Gallardo, mid 90s Honda Accord, CRX, 335i, Infiniti M35, G35, BMW M Coupe, Carrera S, Cayenne S, 2 S2000s, a few Boxters, mkI MR2, 240SX, caged M3, Z51 C6, C6 ZO6 and a couple Mustangs. I'll go through the on track pictures later, but for now:

Damn Unsafe, totally forgot about this. Been without internet for 2 weeks. Let me know if you hear about another one, I'd like to come up now that I'm settled in here in LA.

Somewhere in the middle of this dust cloud is the 240SX that just went off the track:

Here's a quick vid:

The clinic was a blast. Granted it was hot as hell (101 degrees according to the nav) but the only real problems I ended up having with the car (that I've noticed) were the rear rivets on the front air dam came out (you can see it in some of the pics), the rear dome light cover came off, and the passenger sail panel broke off.

I was really impressed with my V. Granted it wasn't really a race or anything, but I was happy with how it held up against the other cars there.

I think the next clinic is in December. I would definatly recommend it. Well worth the money. I probably ended up with 3 hours of actual on track time and you can have an instructor for as much time as you want.

I won't. Sucks. I'll be moving next month to Cheyenne, WY (was supposed to be Minot, ND until I got assigned this past week).

I want to go back to the track so bad though.

I think it's really funny that the only things that broke were body parts...lol

Top Gear must not have been kidding when they say it's just like a race car--Interior included. :thumbleft:

I guess there should be a disclaimer in the Owner's Manual. "If you're going to go 100+ close the windows."

The C pillar panel breaking off is a common problem at high speeds with the windows open. Even worse with the sunroof open as well.
