righty-tighty, lefty-loosey.

oil burns about as good as wood. Hard to get started, but once it's going it won't stop.

I don't think he has figured it out with so many stripped bolts - turn counter-clockwise to loosen, clockwise to tighten....

Congrats on actually getting this far, the V6 sucks to tighten.

They way I did it, was loosen the top alternator bolt a bit, the one it pivots on. Loosen the bottom one enough that you can move the alternator back and forth.

Then I lay under the car, and simultaneously tighten the bottom screw while pulling the alternator towards the rear of the car. Putting the wrench on the screw at the right angle will tend to pull the alternator belt tight as you're tightening down the screw.

I put a pry bar between the alternator and the block to make sure I can pull hard enough on the alternator to get the belt tight.

The big idea, like /\ said is to pull on the alternator to tighten the belt WHILE you are tightening the bottom alternator bolt. Once that bolt is tight, you can relax your pull on the alternator and tighten the top bolt.

Yeah, it sucks.

I think there's a guy on Old Europe who sells a kit to add a spring tensioner to the wp/alt belt.

Rodney Dickman sells an idler for it: http://www.rodneydickman.com/IdlerPulleyKit.html This helps keep the belt tight and prevent the belt from squealing for a longer time.

Can we change the little quote under Lowlux's username from "can't afford a cheeseburger" to "has the IQ of a cheeseburger"? This is ridiculous...

I think I like the new 1 Series stalk better... But if you want some custom baller points you could always have your stock one wrapped in aluminum foil. Then it'll look all nice and expensive, with no actual effort put out, which seems to be right up your alley.

From 88-96, the "E34" style 5-series. Mine came from a 1990 525i.
