4spd muncie hard to downshift to 2nd?

Like the title says the car is hard to downshift to 2nd gear. It doesnt act like a syncro or anything internal to the tranny but feels more like the linkage is holding it up. The clutch hydraulics are working good, and I adjusted the shift linkage according to the procedure in my manual. I'm not sure where to look next. Any suggestions are appreciated. thanks
