Think it's about time to spin some rollers (Aaron's dyno)

Post by Aaron »

I got my I/C water system working today, it's filled now and flowing good, with no leaks. I took the car for a drive, and holy shit it cranks. It helped a lot.

I would like to get it tuned better before, but I can't find a good place to do 4th gear runs over and over, especially with a laptop battery that lasts all of 45 minutes. The highway would be perfect, but it's just too busy most of the time. Plus, the car just isn't quite stable enough. The acceleration is fine, it's letting off that's fucking scary. So I may make a few changes before I run, but I've got a pretty solid line at 11.5 right now.

So, figure about 1-2 weeks out.

Any bets? I'm going to do a couple runs on 8.7psi, then turn it up to 12-14, and do a run or 2. I'd like to see 380whp, then 440 on the higher boost. Hoping for the highest 3.4 DOHC dyno yet (I've got to beat 415).

do 3rd gear pulls or go late at night like 2 am.

My bet is it wont' be dynoed in the 2-3 weeks. Power if you do? 300 whp on 8 psi.

I'd like to do it in 4th, but that involves headlight doors, some scary speeds, etc. I may just settle with 3rd. And the highway section I can use, is also slightly uphill which will help a lot.

300 at 8? Ouch Shaun!

splice off of it to power your lighter.

On the surface of it, 380 at 8.7 seems reasonable to me for flywheel horses, at sea level.
At 7.35, 240 should be 360.

ha-ha! you can't satisfy your woman! :la:

Okay, on topic (slightly), why would you get rid of the cigarette lighter? that's like one of those critical features. There is so much you can do with it... Inflate tires with an air compressor, throw red hot lighters at people,...

If the car isn't stable on decel, get an alignment. I assume you don't have loose parts or worn bushings.

Or run intercooler pumps :thumbleft:

I just got an alignment, suspension is tight, bushings are good. It's just going from strong accel, to off throttle decel, the transition there is hard on the car's stock suspension. It just needs to be dropped with coilovers. But I'm not sure if I want to do that to the car.

So the car doesn't get squirly on decel, you just don't want to do it because its hard on the suspension? GAY

No, it does get squirrely, because the actions of going from such hard accel to nothing on the stock suspension is too much for it.

I have 100k mile old suspension on my car. Stock everything, and its just fine when letting off the gas. It doesnt' get squirly at all at 120 when you let off the gas unless you slam on the brakes. Maybe its because your car is no longer straight after the accident. I have an 88 too so if it gets fishy you have something wrong.

It did this before the accident too. It needs new front end bushings, that could also be playing a part in it. Not sure, but 120 is a nogo on my car, too scary.

Sorry, back end bushings are good.

The front ones are bad, they need to be replaced.

then you are just going to have to tune it on the dyno.
