Lonzo's 88 Coupe 3.4 DOHC build thread
My friend blew up the transmission on the maroon 88GT that I had done a 3.4 DOHC swap in. While the engine was out getting the tranny replaced, we found a local N* that had just been rebuild for *gasp* headgasket failure. So he bought it. I offered around the forums to swap the 3.4 DOHC in someone's Fiero, and Lonzo in Oklahoma took me up on it. He had the car sent out here, and now I have it. It will be getting everything that I did to the maroon car. So a 3.4 DOHC, Spec Stage 3 clutch, 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust with a SpinTech muffler, and he is having me do a 3" mandrel bent intake arm, with a brand new 75mm N* throttle body I had laying around.
So, here be build thread. The old 2.8 was very low on coolant, had a pretty bad clicking, was leaking oil, but other than that seemed ok. The clutch is shot, the car will not even move under its own power. But all of these will be getting fixed.

Do the guy right being he got ripped on the car in the first place on the price. I tried to talk him into letting me do a 3800SC swap into it but you where cheaper.
If the filler neck on the car is good and you are not going to use it then let me know and I will buy it off you.

Yah I will, he's going to be getting a good swap, and it will be perfect when it leaves my place. And I'd expect it to be cheaper, as I already had everything, and it is a less-involved swap than the 3800. But he will also have slightly less power. Still makes for a fun car though.MstangsBware wrote:Do the guy right being he got ripped on the car in the first place on the price. The fuel filler? That will stay on his car, however, I bought another car to fix mine with, and if it has a fuel filler neck, I'll let you know.

I spent the day working on the engine. He's lucky he's not paying me by the hour!
I got the 3.4 kind of cleaned up, though it needs much more. I cannot believe how filthy engines get. I swapped the 96-97 valve cover on, so it clears the new intake. I also removed the A/C bypass pulley, and the PS delete pulley. Everything I did on my black car has turned out to work really well, so I'm basically copying all of it onto this swap. First is the serpentine belt, I removed the PS delete pulley, and am going to use a slightly larger tensioner, that's ribbed. I also redesigned the dogbone, as Lonzo did not want his decklid cut. I also cut off the mounting tabs for the fuel rail, and welded them on so the fuel rail is on backwards, like my black car. Basically, fuel now enters and exits the rail from the passenger side, where the Fiero lines were originally. Lastly, I took his 2.8l off the cradle. It isn't the stock motor, the block and valve covers were painted at some point. Also the headgasket is blown. No big deal. Just 2 pics:

I went down to the junkyard today, and pulled up an A/C compressor, since he wants A/C. They've jacked their prices way up, it was $40!!!
Still looking for intake manifold gaskets, the things are $80 at the parts stores!

I went today, and there were 4 of them! None of them newer ones, but still, I remember a few years ago when I was in heaven if I saw one. Now I see one, glance at it, decide it's nothing special, and move on :thumbleft:MstangsBware wrote:Man I went to the junnkyards last week and there where like 7 DOHC cars between 4 yards. I never remember seeing that many but then again maybe I never paid that much attention.
There were also 6, yes 6 Northstars (Including two 4.0s), and a few L67s (Minus the blowers).
