help! misfiring and a stream of sparkes than died

:scratch: i was driving home last night from work in my 88 gt . the voltage started going up and down.it started sputering rpms going up and down ,rpms droped to about 200 started to pull over a shower of sparks came out from the rear noticed it near the drivers rear tire motor stoped can not start it back up had to get towed. tried starting today it crankes but will not fire sounded like it wanted to once or twice can smell fule. help need to get running again.any ideas

Rich, sounds like you may have lost the voltage regulator on your alternator. disconnect the alternator and try jumpstarting the car. Does the tach move when you crank it over like this? If the tach dosenot move at all, you have lost your ignition module.

Sorry i have been away so long was going threw transplant listing eval. while i am waiting i started working on the fiero. found wire from coil to dist. shorted also other wires were shorted . will be doing a compleate tune up and will post resaults in a week or to thank you %)

Sparking of any sort would indicate an electrical short from a power wire (12v+). Find the short and repair it. Also, you need to go through all of the fuses under the driver side of the dash. There are also inline fuses built into the power cables running to the ECM and cabin. These fuses can be located on the passenger side of the engine bay, underneith the C500 connector. Try getting power through them; replace them if this isn't possible.
